      OVERVIEW

      Merrick is seeking an entry level Mechanical Engineer to join a team of engineering and design personnel serving the Nuclear Services & Technology Business Unit in our project office in Albuquerque, NM. This dynamic multi-discipline engineering group specializes in the design of prototype/one-off custom equipment, gloveboxes, hot cells, specialty research equipment and custom-designed, remotely operated mechanisms for handling radioactive and hazardous materials.

      Typical annual pay range for this position is $72,300 – $88,300. Pay offered may vary depending on job related knowledge, skills, and experience.


      WHAT YOU'LL DO

      • The Mechanical Engineer I will work on a team of engineers and designers within the equipment design group and interface with other disciplines (electrical, structural, and process, et al).
      • This individual is a degreed mechanical engineer capable of executing design tasks. Tasks include the design of containment systems (gloveboxes, containment hoods), material handling systems, equipment integration and installation, and preparation of 3D designs, fabrication drawings, specifications, datasheets, acceptance test plans, and calculations.
      • This individual may be asked to direct the work of designers, delegate work to other entry level engineers, and take design direction from senior-level engineers.

      Key Responsibilities

      • Detailed design activities include preparation of 3D designs, fabrication drawing packages, equipment datasheets, fabrication specifications, procurement specifications, engineering studies, and equipment sizing & scoping calculations.
      • Execution of assigned engineering design tasks within schedule and budget commitments.
      • Follow regimented quality assurance / quality control procedures.
      • Coordinate and communicate design work with other engineering disciplines.

      REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

      • Bachelor of Sciences in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET Accredited Program.
      • Zero (0) - four (4) years of engineering experience.
      • Capability in the design of custom equipment and/or containment systems, development of design documentation including fabrication drawings, engineering analyses, strength of materials calculations, fabrication and procurement specifications and basic knowledge in the selection of materials.
      • Experience or familiarity with 3D design software Creo (Pro Engineer), SolidWorks, or Revit.
      • Must have the ability to acquire a security clearance.
      • Client projects for this position require US Citizenship.

      DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

      • Familiarity with Mathcad or equivalent calculation software.
      • Previous experience with NRC, DOE, or DoD projects.
      • Familiarity with NQA-1-2000 quality assurance programs.
      • Experience with supplier support, factory testing, and field startup.
      • Local candidates preferred.
