Develop and deliver strategic and tailored media plans for Wellcome Collection.
Support and advise Wellcome spokespeople and external advocates for Wellcome on how to engage with the media.
Research, write and edit press materials, including press releases, blog posts and opinion pieces.
Work with our press agency to coordinate and manage press conferences to ensure that journalists attending are well briefed and have access to interviewees. Organise and staff interviews, press views, photo calls, and filming.
Monitor Wellcome Collection’s social media channels, in particular Twitter, and respond as appropriate on news-related issues of strategic or reputational importance.
Embed our anti-racist and anti-ableist principles and involve minoritised communities when developing media plans and materials.
Experience of media relations in-house, at an agency or experience as a journalist dealing with sensitive and high-profile issues and delivering high-profile campaigns.
Excellent contacts in the media and cultural world, and a keen understanding of both.
Excellent written, editing and oral communication skills, including writing and pitching comment and opinion articles in national and international media.
Excellent proactive and reactive media relations skills, including leading media campaign strategies and crisis management. Financial management and budgetary skills.
Able to advise on complex issues of strategic and reputational importance.
Experience in supporting Wellcome’s journey to becoming an anti-racist, anti-ablest organisation. You’ll be an important champion of our Inclusive Communications Principles, building these into your own work and helping to promote them to the wider organisation.

We are looking for a Media Manager, for Wellcome Collection to join our team on a permanent basis.
Where in Wellcome will I be working?
You will be part of Wellcome Collection’s Communications and Marketing team of nine people, reporting to the Communications Lead. You will also work closely with the colleagues across Wellcome Collection, including our curatorial, Collections and Research, Library and Visitor Experience teams, as well as Wellcome’s central Communications teams.
What will I be doing?
You will lead on media relations activities with regard to Wellcome Collection, including Wellcome Library by developing and delivering strategic and tailored media plans, including briefings for journalists and spokespeople, and preparing internal Q&As on issues of major significance. You will work closely with colleagues to ensure integrated external communications across different channels (owned and earned), responsibility for, and advising on media relations aspects of major projects and campaigns.
