      We offer a hybrid 3-2 work schedule (three days in the office, two days of teleworking) to accommodate the need for flexibility.

      Job Summary

      Media & Community Relations Manager

      • Serves as the company’s primary media spokesperson in Northern Virginia, and on other topics as assigned.
      • Manages the company’s relationships with key reporters, editors, opinion leaders and media influencers in Northern Virginia, and leverages relationships to achieve fair and balanced media coverage.
      • Develops collaborative relationships with other Northern Virginia communications professionals in support of the company’s goals, including communications representatives for local and state public officials, philanthropic partners, NGOs, economic development organizations, and others.
      • Leverages the use of social media, videos and other creative content to engage with news media and other audiences, and to amplify positive earned media.
      • Provides communications support for the company’s Northern Virginia operations, government affairs and philanthropy teams to advance the company’s regional priorities.
      • Prepares news releases, talking points, collateral material, OpEds and other communications materials in support of the company’s goals.
      • Develops conversant subject matter expertise on the major operational, political and regulatory issues impacting the company’s reputation, and leverages that expertise to positively shape news media coverage.
      • Advises the company’s senior leadership on near- and long-term communications strategy to advance the company’s goals, mission and strategic priorities.

      Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

      The knowledge, skills, abilities and experiences that are required for entry into this job include the following:

      • 5-6+ years of related experience. Note: A Master's degree will count as one year of experience. A partial year of six months or more experience will be rounded up to one year of experience.
      • Full knowledge of company operations, policies, and procedures.
      • Full knowledge of grammar, syntax, and their applications.
      • In-depth knowledge of media relations processes and applications, including news writing and speech writing.
      • Verbal and written communication skills.
      • Planning and organizing skills.
      • Analytical skills.
      • Strategic thinking ability.
      • Ability to communicate company perspective and information to various audiences.
      • Ability to process information quickly.

      Education Requirements

      Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: Bachelor
