Job Description
- Req#: 49335
- Performs physical examination preparations, point of care testing, vital signs, vaccines, phlebotomy, drug administration including injections, prescription verification with physician’s orders, minor surgery assists, and bio-hazard waste disposal.
- Fulfills environmental responsibilities including restocking and cleaning exam/procedure rooms to maintain infection control, cleaning sterilizer according to scheduled maintenance program and keeping appropriate records.
- Fulfills clerical responsibilities including sending/receiving patient medical records, prior authorizations, referral information, etc., completing forms/requisitions, verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics, and managing and updating charts to ensure that information is complete and filed appropriately.
- Fulfills patient care responsibilities including scheduling and patient flow, assisting patients for exam preparation, collecting patient history, charting, and relaying instructions to patients.
- Adheres to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines, quality control methods, and the MA scope of practice.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by management within job scope.

OverviewThe Medical Assistant is responsible for performing a variety of clinical and administrative duties including preparing patient for medical examination, charting medical histories, maintaining medical records, scheduling patient appointments and other clerical tasks. Provides information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from clinical services.
Responsibilities
QualificationsHigh School Diploma/Equivalent is required.
Required:
Successful completion of a formal Medical Assistant program from an accredited school or Associate's Degree and / or Successful completion of a formal patient care technician (PCT) program from an approved program and / or Successful completion of a formal emergency medical technician (EMT) program and / or
Successful completion of a formal paramedic program1 year of Providing direct care as medical assistant or related role in a healthcare setting
-OR-
Graduate of Medical Assistant program from formal school or program, obtaining a certification or registration certificate. Program must have hands on practical experience as part of the curriculum.
Successful completion of a PCT, EMT or paramedic program can be used in lieu of the experience listed above.
Preferences:
Medical Assistant Certification or Registered Medical Assistant.
Additional Information:
BLS, provided by American Heart Association (AHA), required within 30 days of hire.High School Diploma/Equivalent is required.
