Essential Job Accountabilities:

Job Summary:-
The Medical Assistant Student program is the perfect start to your career in healthcare. You will participate in a 5 month training of classroom and clinical learning. Once training is completed, you will be placed in a Medical Assistant position with NCH. Training starts on November 6th,2023.
The Medical Assistant Student is responsible for providing basic care to patients following established standards and practices under the direction of a supervising nurse.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:-
- Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned, which may include checking schedules and organizing patient flow.
- Escorting patients to exam/procedure rooms. Observes, records and reports patient observations and reactions to drugs and treatments to providers.
- Assisting patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.
- Collecting patient history including current medications, allergies, symptoms, etc.
- Provide patient care as directed by the provider; this may include screenings, treatments in accordance with established standards.
- Assisting providers with various procedures as needed.
- Documents in the Electronic Medical Record and relays information/instructions to patient/family. Documents all interventions, phone calls, patient/family responses, medication dispensed or prescribed, hospital data.
- Answering patient phone calls and messages, acting as a communication liaison between the patient and provider.
- Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned which may include filing or sending medical records to a patient or referral provider, appointment scheduling.
- Collection and handling of lab specimens following established standards and practices. Adhere to infection control safety guidelines, maintaining equipment, instruments, and stock supplies.
- Utilizes electronic referrals process to complete requested physician referrals to NCHMD specialists and ancillary services.

Education, Experience, Qualifications:-
- Minimum of High School or GED required.
- Completion of Medical Terminology preferred.
- Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic computer knowledge: ability to operate a PC, create/save/print documents, input data.
