      Medical Director - Implementation Science

      What you will do

At Amgen, we've established a bold ambition to reduce CV events by half by 2023. We have 4 milestone goals by 2025 focused on LDL-C testing, LDL-C target levels, quality measures and access. Amgen can't achieve these on our own and need multi-stakeholders with aligned objectives taking bold action to get help.

At Amgen Medical, implementation of evidence is a key focus to closing the gap in what is known in evidence based literature and what is done in clinical practice. By identifying and addressing barriers to uptake of evidence and guideline recommendations into care, we hope to help speed the progress toward improving population health.

Amgen is committed to working with key stakeholders in implementation science to achieve the goal of reducing cardiovascular disease globally. We convened a new LDL Awareness to Action Implementation Consortium (LATAIC; pronounced LATTICE) focused on how to improve LDL-C testing and evidence-based approach to patient CV care management. LATAIC focuses on finding opportunities to accelerate the impact of the translation of evidence-based research into clinical practice. We hope to enable scalable action to address unmet LDL needs, drive efficiency, and improve quality of care for patients by expanding LATAIC to include other CVD industry stakeholders. The consortium is comprised of leading CV institutions, including Duke’s Cardio Health Alliance, Harvard's BAIM Institute, Johns Hopkins, Geisinger, University of Colorado, St. Luke's CardioMetabolic Center Alliance, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Providence, Yale and UT Southwestern.

This Medical Director – Implementation Science role has been created to take these initiatives to the next level by facilitating sharing, learning, ideation and collaboration, in an effort to scale with speed. This Medical Director- Implementation Science will lead implementation science initiatives in the US, initially in cardiovascular and metabolism. However, we envisage the role to evolve to cover other population health indications such as bone health where similar implementation science approaches would scale to. In addition, we expect the incumbent to inspire colleagues beyond the US and to scale implementation science efforts globally

      • Evaluate new proposals assessing strategic fit, facilitating external peer review, and internal alignment as part of proposal evaluation process

      • Lead execution of implementation activities from project review, development, deployment and management of proposals, including aspects of contracting, protocol approval, monthly/quarterly metric tracking for KPIs, and project specific publication planning

      • Lead all aspects of scaling implementation science projects or quality improvement efforts to other healthcare systems

      • Develop and manage the LATAIC website/repository inclusive of proposal collation, repository of tools, and grant funding requests

      • Lead efforts to train cross-functional field team on resources to support scaling efforts nationally

      • Be the Amgen leader for LATAIC including both internal cross-functional collaboration and external representation

      • Establish Amgen as a leader in implementation science by amplifying successes and learnings through appropriate dissemination of best practices

      • Develop and lead/support evidence implementation that shapes product and informs the practice of medicine, ensure key needs are met in alignment with local medical strategy, brand strategy, and above-brand CV Leadership Strategy
