- Fulfil the requirements for completion of Confirmatory Cremation Form 5 i.e. Medical practitioner registered and licensed to practise in the UK by the GMC of at least five years' standing
- MEs should have up-to-date knowledge of causes of death and an understanding of the legal frameworks associated with death certification processes
- Assessment of care in current organisation
- Knowledge of local and national clinical governance systems and an understanding of how the ME can work collaboratively to improve patient safety by identifying sub optimal clinical and organisational performance.
- EAbility to work as part of a team and organise a fluctuating workload around competing priorities and numerous interruptions.
- Have the resilience to manage own reaction to frequently distressing situations and support others within the team.

Job summary
This is a unique opportunity to participate in the national implementation and development of the Medical Examiner (ME)service. Medical Examiners scrutinise all deaths that are not under investigation by a coroner.
Hereford implemented their service in its acute hospital in 2019. It has proved successful with staff and relatives alike. In June 2021 NHS England issued an instruction to roll out a similar system to cover deaths in all settings. The statutory date for this to commence is 9th September 2024.

Main duties of the job
Taking information from the attending doctors, digital medical records and from the family of the deceased, the ME advises on death certification and referral, as required, to the coroner. They also review the quality of care give and feedback compliments, questions and suggestions to relevant members of the team with the aim of improving care quality.
