  Job Summary:

  Multiple Positions - Nebraska Methodist Health System, Inc. is seeking multiple Medical Laboratory Scientist I for Methodist Fremont Health to perform venipuncture collection of blood specimens from patients. Prepare biological specimens for laboratory analysis. Conduct diagnostic laboratory tests that are important in detecting, analyzing, and treating a wide variety of diseases and medical conditions. Conduct chemical analysis of body fluids, including blood, urine, or spinal fluid, to determine presence of normal or abnormal components. Enter data from analysis of medical tests or clinical results into computer for storage. Analyze laboratory findings to check the accuracy of the results. Communicate test or assessment results to medical professionals. Select and prepare specimens and media for cell cultures, using aseptic technique and knowledge of medium components and cell requirements. Operate, calibrate, and maintain equipment (and document calibration and maintenance) used in quantitative or qualitative analysis, such as spectrophotometers, calorimeters, flame photometers, or computer-controlled analyzers. Establish or monitor quality assurance programs or activities to ensure the accuracy of laboratory results. Complete and document quality control and compliance with PPE guidelines. Complete training required including mandatory and/or CE programs, maintain knowledge and compliance with regulatory and accreditation agencies. Follow organization’s mission, vision, core values and policies.

  1. Perform duties of a Medical Laboratory Scientist.

  • Accurately perform, evaluate appropriateness and report tests/analyses requested on patient specimens on all assigned routine benches.
  • Utilizes time efficiently to complete assignments and assist coworkers.
  • Quality control is completed and documented 100% of the time.
  • Calibration is completed and documented 100% of the time.
  • Routine maintenance is completed and documented 100% of the time.
  • Compliant per PPE guidelines 100% of the time.
  • Accommodates patient and laboratory needs by professionally responding to requests for flexibility in duties, schedules, and staffing.

  2. Document orientation, training, and education to ensure employee competence, provide excellent services, and meet accreditation requirements by effective verbal or written communication.

  • Organizational and department competencies are completed 100% of the time.
  • Evidence that new procedures and major procedure revisions are read and understood.

  3. Maintains knowledge of regulatory and accreditation agency requirements and in quality assurance activities.

  • Proficiency testing is completed as assigned and submitted by the deadline.
  • Assists technical coordinator or section leader with problem resolution and follow up reports for proficiency tests as requested.
  • Assists with the completion of quality control and Quality Assurance activities.
  • Achieves section/organization quality goals.

  Job Requirements

  Education

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Medical Laboratory Science, or Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology required.
  • or
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) or Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree with a Certificate from a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) accredited Medical Laboratory Science (MLS)/Medical Technology (MT)/Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS) program required.

  
  Experience

  • 1 year of experience in applicable section of laboratory is preferred.

  
  License/Certifications

  • Current Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent required within 6 months of hire (or previously qualified or could have qualified as a technologist under CFR 493.1491 on or before February 28, 1992) or will be demoted to a non-certified position.
