- Bachelor of Science Degree from regionally accredited university in chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory science
- Minimum of 2 years experience in a Clinical lab setting.
- ASCP or equivalent certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Medical Technologist (MT), or discipline specific certification (C, H).

A Medical Laboratory Scientist II in the core section is experienced in laboratory testing in the areas of hematology, coagulation, immunology, chemistry and/or special chemistry in a hospital setting and fulfills all the responsibilities and tasks of a MLS I as well as performing quality assurance metric studies, training, competency assessment, and training/competency assessments.
