- The Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing routine and complex laboratory tests in areas such as chemistry, hematology, microbiology, and blood banking
- The role involves conducting diagnostic testing, analyzing test results, and maintaining laboratory equipment to ensure accurate and reliable outcomes
- The MLT collaborates with laboratory staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to provide timely and effective patient care in an acute care hospital setting
- Perform laboratory tests in chemistry, hematology, coagulation, microbiology, urinalysis, and immunohematology
- Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment according to established protocols
- Analyze test results for accuracy, identify anomalies, and take corrective action as necessary
- Document test results and report critical values promptly to appropriate personnel
- Maintain quality control and quality assurance protocols to ensure regulatory compliance
- Perform venipuncture and specimen collection as required
- Assist in training new laboratory staff and students on laboratory procedures and protocols
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to infection control and safety protocols
- Communicate effectively with medical staff, patients, and other departments regarding laboratory procedures and test results
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives and continuing education to maintain clinical competencies
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in testing and documentation
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in laboratory information systems (LIS) and electronic medical records (EMR)
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced, high-stress environment
- Strong organizational and time management abilities
- Associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Applied Science, Biology, or related field required
- ASCP or AMT certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within timeframe specified in facility policy
- 1-2 years of clinical laboratory experience in a hospital or diagnostic laboratory setting preferred
