What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Screen all services for Medicare and Medicaid patients to ensure compliance with CMS guidelines
- Determine coverage and eligibility for services and ensure beneficiary notification when services may not be covered
- Serve as a reference for internal and external customers regarding coding and medical necessity
- Utilize thorough knowledge of ICD-9-CM coding system, CPT-4 procedures, and medical terminology
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure accurate coding and billing practices
What is Required (Qualifications):
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Completion of an accredited Certified Coding Specialist program or Associate Degree in Health Information Management Science
- Minimum of 2 years of outpatient coding experience
- Thorough knowledge of ICD-10-CM coding systems and CPT-4
- Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in a healthcare setting
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Certification as a CPS or CCS
- Eligibility for ART or R.R.A certification
- Bilingual skills highly preferred
- Competency in medical necessity verification systems
- Proficiency in computer applications related to coding and billing
