JOB DESCRIPTION: Medical Office Assistant
SUMMARY: The Medical Office Assistant supports the operations of the clinic and healthcare providers and is the first point of contact for patients.

REPORTS TO: Team Lead or Clinic Manager
What you will do:
· Answer and triage emails and phone calls from patients, and HCP (Health Care Professionals), keep accurate records of all patient interactions in EMR.
· Welcome patients and HCP into the clinic. Provide assistance as needed.
· Liaise with patients, physicians, and various HCP to schedule and confirm appointments, triage referrals, and coordinate activities related to and from clinical and patient interactions.
· Support the day-to-day activities of a medical clinic including verifying the validity of OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan) coverage or other medical insurance as appropriate.
· Perform Triage as required.
· Collect payment of uninsured services as required.
· Learn and use the EMR for all patient activities, ensuring patient data is entered correctly at all times.
· Review the EMR database to ensure up-to-date information in address book.
· File faxes electronically.
· Assist patients in the use of modern technology within the clinic.
· Act as a change champion and promote the adoption of modern technology by patients and physicians.
· Assist physicians and patients with requisitions and forms for insurance, medical forms, Ministry of Health etc.
· As per business needs, help out team members and provide shift coverage as needed.
· Maintain a professional approach when interacting with colleagues and health care professionals to establish good working relations.
· Communicate with patients using empathy, understanding and respect.
· Other duties as assigned.
What you will need:
· Previous experience working in a medical clinic; family practice clinic is preferred.
· Outstanding customer service skills, including the ability to interact with patients using an empathic approach.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office with an emphasis on Outlook.
· A working knowledge of Electronic Medical Records is an asset; experience with Accuro EMR is preferred.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· The ability to work in a high paced environment.
· An understanding of PHIPA and IPAC guidelines is an asset.
· Highly organized, detailed-oriented with strong people skills.
· Ability to work within a team environment and independently.
· Flexibility with regards to shift coverage and collegial support.
· Available days, evenings, and weekends.
