      About our team

Chief Operating Officer | Chief Medical Officer | Clinical Advisory Team

The Clinical Advisory Team (CAT), as part of the Chief Medical Officer Branch (CMOB), consist of doctors and registered nurses who support the Chief Medical Officer in this function - predominantly in the areas of staff health and wellbeing, immigration and detention, but may also extend to various other topics given the breadth of the Home Affairs portfolio.

The CMOB also collaborates with external government agencies, both Federal and in respective States and Territories, as well as international counterparts, to share information and ensure consistency in the advice issued. The CMOB has lead accountability to ensure that policies, programs and related functions - including the provision of various health services - are informed by best clinical and scientific advice. Through robust health governance, assurance and a continuing cycle of quality and safety improvement, health-related activities are supported by well-designed clinical policies and standards, appropriate to the environment in which we operate. Through these activities, the CMOB contributes to achieving the Portfolio vision of a prosperous, secure and united society.
