      Main duties of the job

      As a GP Practice Receptionist, you will be the first point of contact for patientsboth in person and over the phoneproviding a professional, friendly, and efficient service. Your main responsibilities will include booking and cancelling appointments, managing patient enquiries, processing repeat prescription requests, and handling sensitive information with confidentiality. You will also be responsible for registering new patients, updating records, scanning and filing documents, and supporting the clinical and admin teams to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the practice. Experience using EMIS or the ability to quickly learn clinical systems is essential. This is a busy and rewarding role that requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, strong IT skills, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

      • Answer telephone calls promptly and efficiently, dealing with patient queries or directing them appropriately

      • Book, amend, and cancel appointments using EMIS clinical system

      • Register new patients and update patient details as needed

      • Process repeat prescription requests and liaise with clinical staff when needed

      • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times

      • Scan, file, and manage incoming documents and patient correspondence

      • Monitor and respond to practice emails and tasks

      • Support clinicians and management with administrative tasks

      • Maintain a clean and organised reception area

      • Work collaboratively with the wider team to ensure excellent patient care

      • Be flexible to cover shifts during staff absences, sickness, or annual leave where possible
