      We are looking for a professional, friendly, and organised Medical Receptionist to join our busy and supportive primary care team.

      You will be the first point of contact for patients and play a vital role in delivering excellent front-line service. This is a great opportunity for someone who thrives in a patient-facing role, enjoys working in a team, and wants to make a positive contribution to the local community.

      Main duties of the job

      • Provide a warm and professional welcome to all patients, visitors, and healthcare professionals

      • Answer telephone and face-to-face enquiries promptly and efficiently

      • Book, amend and cancel patient appointments using our clinical system (e.g., EMIS)

      • Manage repeat prescription requests, patient registrations, and other routine administrative tasks

      • Handle confidential information in line with data protection and practice policies

      • Work collaboratively with the wider practice team to support smooth day-to-day operations

      Job responsibilities

      Reception Duties:

      • Greet patients and visitors in a professional, courteous, and efficient manner

      • Manage incoming telephone calls, including booking appointments, taking messages, and signposting patients appropriately using the practices triage system

      • Support patients to book appointments through eConsult

      • Book, amend, and cancel appointments using clinical systems (e.g., EMIS)

      • Register new patients and process changes to patient records

      Administrative Tasks:

      • Process repeat prescription requests accurately and in a timely manner

      • Handle incoming and outgoing mail and email correspondence

      • File and scan clinical documents into patient records

      • Support the wider admin team with tasks such as referrals, recalls, and data entry

      • Maintain the confidentiality of patient information at all times

      Teamwork & Communication:

      • Liaise with clinical staff and external services as needed

      • Communicate effectively with patients from a wide range of backgrounds, sometimes in distressing or sensitive situations

      • Attend team meetings and contribute to practice improvements

      • Participate in ongoing training and development

      • Previous experience in a medical or NHS reception/admin role
      • Familiarity with clinical systems (e.g., EMIS, Docman)
      • Knowledge of medical terminology
      • Understanding of primary care or NHS services
