      Job summary

      We are looking to appoint a receptionist to join our busy GP practice based over two sites, who will be the first point of contact for patients and visitors as well as carrying out general office management tasks.

      You will be responsible for the general reception duties within the Practice and work with our established processes, policies and procedures to provide a comprehensive high quality service and deal efficiently and courteously with patient enquiries.

      You will receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way.

      You will provide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone.

      You will have excellent communication skills, a compassionate and friendly nature who can operate in a busy environment working with a range of people.

      This role is ideal for someone who is highly organised and an effective communicator who can provide a professional and warm welcome to our patients, ensuring every contact is of the highest quality.

      Main duties of the job

      • To have a thorough knowledge of all practice procedures.
      • Computer data entry, processing and recording information in accordance with practice procedures.
      • Providing clerical assistance to practice staff as required, including word/data processing, electronic filing, photocopying, and scanning.
      • Cover sickness/annual leave and work reasonable overtime when required.
      • Receiving patients, consulting with members of the practice team.
      • Processing prescription requests from patients, dealing with prescriptions queries from patients and pharmacies.
      • Be able to cover all reception positions as necessary.
      • Taking messages and passing on information.
      • Processing personal and telephone requests for appointments, telephone consultations and home visits and ensuring callers are directed to the appropriate healthcare professional.
      • Processing and distributing incoming (and outgoing) mail.
      • Ensure that system is operational at the beginning of each day and switched over to night service and that the answer phone is operational at the end of each day.
      • Keeping the reception area and notice boards tidy and free from obstructions and ensuring patient information and leaflets are well stocked.
      • Maintaining and monitoring the practice and extended access appointments system including booking/amending and cancelling appointments, ensuring sufficient and accurate information is recorded.

      About us

      The Menston and Guiseley Practice seek a reliable and experienced Medical Receptionist to join our busy two-site GP Practice.

      The role is for 23 hours per week to work Monday and Friday morning (7.45am - 1.45pm) and all day Wednesday (7.45am - 6.45pm). Shifts will be split across both of our surgeries in Guiseley and Menston.

      The ideal candidate will be flexible to cover annual leave and absence where necessary and will be able to work in a calm and professional manner while under pressure and will offer excellent customer service and communication skills.
