- Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover and ensure procedures are completed
- Handing completed repeat prescriptions to patient and checking names and address.
- Be able to cover all reception position as necessary
- Prepare lists and notes for all surgeries and clinics held, ensuring completion of all associated paperwork
- Book appointment requests for today and future appointments from patients by telephone and in person.
- Enter requests for home visits into the visit book, ensuring careful recording of all relevant details and where necessary refer to Duty Doctor
- Deal with visits/requests
- Registrations of new patients computer data entry and medical records.
- Process patients change of address computer data and medical records (have knowledge of Practice area.
- Process repeat prescription requests in accordance with practice guidelines
- Assist and support patients to register for online access
- Receive and make telephone calls as required. Divert calls and take messages, ensuring accuracy of detail and prompt appropriate delivery
- Have working knowledge of telephone system, during and after hours.
- Have the confidence to answer telephone calls and deal with the query with accuracy
- Open up premises at the start of the day when first to arrive, de-activate alarm and make all the necessary preparations for when patients arrive.
- Ensure all Health & Safety checks are undertaken within the desired timescales as indicated in the Practices Health & Safety Policy
- When last to leave at the end of the day, ensure that the building is totally secured, internal lights are off, all electrical equipment has been turned off and the alarm activated
- Ensure building security have thorough knowledge of doors/windows/alarm
- Any other tasks allocated by managers

Job summary
The Village Medical Centre is looking to recruit a Medical Receptionist. The business opening hours are between 07:30am 6.30pm, Monday to Friday and the ideal candidate will work 30 hours per week consisting of 5 afternoons, 12.30 6.30pm.
This is a multi-skilled role for the successful candidate, who will undertake a range of duties including dealing face-to-face with patients and visitors queries at reception, assisting with day-to-day routine GP admin work, answering, and making telephone calls and supporting the surgery team.
We are looking for someone who is dedicated and interested in working in a medical environment. The successful applicant will have good levels of literacy, IT skills preferably with knowledge of Emis and interpersonal skills with a commitment to the responsibilities of the role. Some medical admin/reception experience would be an advantage; however training and guidance will be given.
Main duties of the job
This is an exciting opportunity to work in a small busy practice. The ideal candidate will be a team player who can also work on their own initiative once fully trained.
