      Medical Records Coordinator - Position Overview:

      The Medical Records Coordinator supports the nursing department and assists with ensuring the health and well-being of residents by managing their medical records to include collecting resident information, issuing medical files, filing medical records, and processing paperwork. The MRC maintains records in a manner compliant with all applicable state and federal regulations.

      Elderwood at Hornell:

      • Nestled among the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains along the Canisteo River in Steuben County, you’ll find Elderwood at Hornell. The skilled nursing facility, just 55 miles south of Rochester, NY, offers an experienced and dedicated staff that cares for residents who need long-term nursing home and memory care. Comprehensive physical, occupational and speech therapy are provided in an updated therapy suite. Elderwood at Hornell also provides Adult Medical Day Services to members of the community.

      Responsibilities

      Medical Records Coordinator:

      • Validates census information on a daily basis and submits census activity information to the Business Office or as directed.
      • Submits census to required state department(s) weekly or as needed.
      • Retrieves monthly reports from CMS.
      • Organizes and performs analysis on medical records of discharged residents and ensurescompleteness before filing.
      • Prepares information for QA & R and performs any related tasks as instructed.
      • If applicable at facility, supervises, schedules and oversees Medical Records Assistant(s) to include assisting in the hiring process, reviewing timecards, evaluations, training, onboarding and administering discipline.
      • Maintains MD/NP schedule.
      • Manages role assignments for physician and nursing staff in HPN system.
      • Maintains closed medical records and their accessibility for retrieval/investigations and the proper destruction of closed records per company policy.

      Qualifications

      Medical Records Coordinator:

      • Minimum of HS diploma or equivalent
      • Minimum of two (2) years of long-term care experience
      • Demonstrated computer skills using databases and applications (e.g. Microsoft Office)
      • Education/Training in medical records processing leading to R.H.I.T certification preferred
      • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred

      • This position requires regular interaction with residents, coworkers, visitors, and/or supervisors. In order to ensure a safe work environment for residents, coworkers, visitors, and/or supervisors of the Company, and to permit unfettered communication between the employee and those residents, coworkers, visitors, and supervisors, this position requires that the employee be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language at an intermediate or more advanced level.
