      Medical Science Liaison (Greater toronto Area)

      The Position

      The Medical Science Liaison - Rare Disease (MSL) serves as a critical contributor in implementing the field Medical strategy in alignment with the national Medical Affairs vision and Global Medical Affairs Rare Disease (GMAB) guidance. The MSL works also to increasing the awareness, utilization, and competitive positioning of Rare Disease products in Canada.

      Essential Functions

      Strategic Development

      • Develops, recommends and implements programs regarding disease concepts and treatment practices in Hemophilia Treatment Centres, Pediatric Endocrinology Clinics and any other assigned Rare Disease therapeutic area, with the aim to engage physician and none-physician Opinion Leaders, and influence other healthcare providers in order to support Rare Disease business vision
      • Collaborates with the MSL team to maintain and update existing scientific communication material based on KOL interactions and new developments in publications and academia
      • Establishes scientific and medical credibility with KOLs by keeping abreast of relevant published scientific material, also creates open communication lines with those KOLs, to monitor their advocacy levels for Rare Disease marketed and pipeline products and to identify business relevant Investigator Sponsored Studies (ISS) for potential support
      • Provides on-going medical support to clinical operation in the field, by identifying interested PIs and sites and supporting in SSV and SIV, when requested by the trial CRAs and clinical colleagues
      • Routinely creates and presents scientific material to a wide variety of external stakeholders and maintains a professional level of objectivity so as not to compromise NNCI medical leadership image and the MSL role
      • Gathers competitive field intelligence information from credible sources and communicates the business impact and/or potential developing trend to the medical team on a weekly basis
      • Establishes himself/herself as a field medical resource to address queries from the field sales team in alignment with the agreed business strategies

      Brand Image

      • Responds to requests of field support by the Key Account Managers to increase awareness around key scientific concepts for Rare Disease marketed products, therefore supporting the field commercial personnel to achieve their business objectives
      • Utilizes the scientific communication material on marketed and pipeline products to establish KOL understanding through discussions related to addressing unmet needs, scientific innovation, clinical relevance, and impact on the standard treatment paradigm to maintain NNCI’s leadership in the Rare Disease therapeutic areas
      • Promotes and increases academic, medical, scientific and evidence-based awareness, utilization and competitive positioning of Rare Disease products through SU, OLA, CHE events, case study reports and clinical trials to increase scientific advocacy for Rare Disease products

      Therapeutic and Clinical Leadership

      • Establishes medical and scientific expertise and maintains high professional credibility and ethical standards in interactions with various external stakeholders
      • Acts as a clinical and scientific resource in Rare Disease therapeutic areas, developing and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of current, investigational and competitor products in order to provide support and guidance to sales colleagues and feedback to the medical strategic execution
      • Prepares and conducts ongoing product and scientific updates (SUs) to HCPs within the assigned territory to raise scientific awareness and understanding of marketed Rare Disease products.
      • Supports the pre-launch activities of Rare Disease products by increasing awareness through scientific educational events to HCPs, HCOs within the assigned territory
      • In collaboration with the manager, recommends potential investigators for clinical protocols when requested by NACO, supports PI engagement to maintain high NN clinical research quality standards in Canada
      • Leverages insights from the field and a wide variety of sources to identify and support HCP rising stars and to engage established global, national and regional thought leaders
      • Identifies KOLs within each of Rare Disease therapeutic areas and recommends membership to International and local Advisory Panels to enhance the quality of the information gathered during these activities
      • In alignment with the national field manager, manages a territory budget including capacity, other learning programs (OLAs) and scientific updates (SUs) costs to maximize NNCI’s medical and scientific impact with customers
      • Participates in scientific and medical conferences by engaging KOL attendees and reporting and communicating on new medical and scientific developments to internal and external stakeholders to maintain high level of therapeutic area knowledge
      • Collaborates cross functionally with Sales and Marketing and attends internal meetings outside of medical upon the request of the manager, in order to offer in house training support which also enhances and maintains the MSL understanding of all current Rare Disease strategies

      Key Compliance Accountabilities:

      • Complies with the Novo Nordisk Way
      • Complies with all Novo Nordisk Quality Business Processes by adhering to all appropriate SOPs and maintaining, updating and filing Read and Understood Forms to insure up to date information
      • Reports field interactions through Veeva and creates detailed reports to be shared with the Medical team on specific customers’ interactions, activities in the field and competitive feedbacks as agreed with the manager

      Goals

      • Creates and executes a territory plan in alignment with the national field medical strategy
      • Develops KOL engagement plan to identified KOLs, to be evaluated twice yearly with the manager

      Working Conditions

      • Field based position
      • Travels up to 60% of the time including frequent national and international trips
      • Deals with multiple ad hoc demands and tight deadlines
      • Occasionally works during evenings and weekends

      Qualifications

      Education and Certifications:

      • M.D, Pharm.D, Ph.D, MSc
      • Bilingual professional proficiency to cover francophone regions

      Work Experience:

      • Pharmaceutical industry experience as MSL or any other customer facing role is preferred
      • Prior experience in clinical practice and/or research in therapeutic areas of interest to NNCI is strongly desired
      • Previous experience in NNCI’s therapeutic areas of expertise would be an asset (Rare Bleeding and/or Rare Endocrine)
