- To provide an efficient audio, copy typing and word processing service for GPs and Health Professionals as required. This includes the typing of letters, reports, patient referrals, minutes, memorandums, etc. in an accurate and quality manner.
- To action referrals within the eReferral system.
- To establish and maintain filing and administrative systems so that written or computer information is easily accessible and secure.
- To maintain the computer system in an accurate and secure manner.
- To receive incoming and initiate outgoing telephone calls in order to facilitate timely and appropriate communications with others, taking messages and dealing with appropriate queries.
- To assist with the gathering of statistics and information when required.
- To provide cover for members of the secretarial team during periods of sickness and annual leave.
- To receive and dispatch mail and maintain a pending system as appropriate.

Job summary
We are seeking a reliable and experienced Medical Secretary to join our busy GP practice on a temporary basis. This role offers an excellent opportunity to support our healthcare team in delivering high-quality patient care while maintaining the smooth operation of our practice.
You will be responsible for processing referrals, typing correspondence and medical reports, and ensuring all documentation meets NHS standards and confidentiality requirements.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience working in a healthcare environment, preferably within a GP practice or similar medical setting. Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle sensitive information with complete discretion are essential. Proficiency in medical terminology, excellent communication skills, and competency with SystmOne would be highly advantageous.

We are based in a purpose built health care facility which opened in 2020; the building is shared with both Northamptonshire Health Foundation Trust and Oxford University Hospital Trust who both operate a variety of secondary care services and satellite clinics which provides our patients with unique local services for our semi-rural practice.
This temporary position provides competitive hourly rates commensurate with experience, along with the opportunity to gain valuable experience in a supportive healthcare environment.
