  Job Title: Medical Technologist

  Job Description

  The role of a Medical Technologist involves functioning as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, conducting complex testing and analysis in a hospital medical laboratory setting. The position requires determining the acceptability of specimens for testing, performing routine and complex technical procedures, and ensuring the proper functionality of laboratory instruments.

  Responsibilities

  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
  • Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
  • Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving.
  • Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents or controls.
  • Report accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient care.
  • Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
  • Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary.
  • Assist with processing of specimens when needed.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.

  • Minimum 2-4 years of clinical laboratory testing experience
  • Core Lab and Blood Banking experience
  • MT license
  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Proficiency with computers
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Strong communication and organizational skills

  Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • ASCP or AMT certification is either preferred or required depending on requirements
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems
  • Ability to pass a standardized color vision screen
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs

  Work Environment

  The position is based in a hospital medical laboratory, specifically within the core lab. It requires maintaining a safe work environment and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment.

  Pay and Benefits

  The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $45.00/hr.
