      Portage County has a Seasonal Medicare Part D Enrollment Specialist position opening. This position will work 20-30 hours per week starting at the end of September and ending approximately December 23, 2023.

      What are the primary job duties?
      • Directly provide Medicare beneficiaries age 60 and older with one-on-one counseling to assist them in choosing and enrolling in the best alternative for meeting their prescription drug needs.
      • Keep regular office hours for scheduled appointments at Lincoln Center.
      • Develop accessible service in rural areas of the county and make home visits when necessary.
      • Assist people in filling out forms and in making telephone contacts.
      • Educate Medicare beneficiaries and family members to help them understand the Medicare Prescription Drug Program as well as other options that may be available for coverage of prescription costs, including Wisconsin’s SeniorCare Program.
      • Help beneficiaries after enrollment in a prescription assistance program so they can obtain the benefits to which they are entitled.
      • Screen beneficiaries for possible eligibility for other public and private benefits and take appropriate follow-up action, including referring beneficiaries with other benefit issues to the current Elderly or Disability Benefit Specialist or other appropriate resource for assistance.
      • Conduct outreach to persons on or soon to be on Medicare to inform them about choices for prescription drug coverage.
      • Maintain confidential files documenting all actions taken, and follow up thoroughly until resolution of problem.
      • Follow all policies and procedures for service delivery as directed by the elder law attorneys.
      • Request assistance from the elder law attorneys in a timely and appropriate manner.

      What is the required Education and Experience?
      • Minimum of two years’ experience in a position with similar responsibilities required.
      • High School diploma required. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
      • Background in health benefits or health insurance area and/or experience working in an advocacy or administrative capacity in the public benefits area or as a paralegal is helpful.
      • Must pass the required Basic SHIP Certification prior to the start of the Annual Open Enrollment Period (AOEP)
      This position is not eligible for benefits.
