This position is responsible for developing, directing, monitoring, and demonstrating improved outcomes of the organization's medication use processes and regulatory compliance surrounding medication use. This position is an organizational stakeholder and champion for all medication safety initiatives and will work both independently and collaboratively to identify, design, implement, and monitor medication safety initiatives. This position will oversee the safety of medication use components in all settings within the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
* Oversee the creation, planning, review, and refinement and demonstrate improvement of the medication safety program and Medication Error Reduction Plan (MERP)
* Identify and prioritize opportunity areas for improving medication safety for all practice settings involved in the medication use process
* Oversee and validate compliance with all state, federal, and accrediting bodies' medication-related regulatory requirements including but not limited to sterile and non-sterile compounding, hazardous medication handling, cold chain and temperature monitoring oversight, medication administration and storage, and drug diversion
* Develop, oversee, and track medication safety and regulatory-related policies and standard work
* Influence and lead sustainable standardized practice change for medication safety to ensure high reliability within medication use systems
* Develop criteria for and documentation of actions/changes taken/implemented to improve medication safety
* Engage staff and leaders in creating a Just Culture environment to maintain and continually improve medication safety
* Lead the system Medication Safety Committee and other relevant committees as assigned
* Possess or gain a strong understanding of the internal systems and processes through firsthand experience, observations, medication-use evaluations, interviews, and data analysis to facilitate the to identify, design and implement medication safety initiatives
* Possess clinical and operational expertise and a broad understanding of health care systems and processes to facilitate accurate events interpretation, action planning, and demonstrated improvements
* Utilization of strong analytical skills, statistics, population data, and the concepts of risk and prioritization to identify, design, implement and demonstrate improvements for medication safety initiatives
* Provide medication safety education and presentations on safe medication use to diverse audiences
* Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
* 8 years of pharmacy or healthcare experience
* 5 years of experience in health system leadership
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience working and leading multi-disciplinary initiatives and health system-level projects
* Demonstrated success in medication use safety
* MBA, MHA or other equivalent training
* Experience with medication safety and process-improvement methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, FMEA, and RCA2
* Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) certificationEducation Qualifications:
