      Job summary

      We are seeking a Band 5 Medication Safety Pharmacy Technician to assist the Medicines Safety Team to promote and improve the safe use of medicines across Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, acting as an expert in medicines safety.

      The post holder will be based at Tatchbury Mount which requires travel between the various trust sites for meetings. The successful applicant will be experienced at managing their own workload in a busy environment, and be expected to organise their own time and diary. You will possess excellent communication skills and be able to present data to others, not easily ruffled you will be able to problem solve within own scope of practice.

      Main duties of the job

      *Assist in the management of medication incident reporting by reviewing medication incidents to ensure data quality for local and national learning

      *Work with the Medicines Safety Team to improve the reporting and learning from medication incidents

      *Support the CDAO and Lead Medication Safety Pharmacy Technician with all aspects of legal requirements, investigation and oversight of losses and all other governance of controlled drugs.

      *Work as a medicines management pharmacy technician on inpatient wards, when required, including performing medicines reconciliation, assessment of patient own drugs (PODs), checking of medication for discharge and counselling patients while helping to ensure the safe and effective use of medicines

      *To follow and apply legislation, legal, ethical, professional and employer's codes of conduct

      • Current GPhC registration as a Pharmacy Technician
      • NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services and BTEC Level 3 in Pharmaceutical Sciences with appropriate underpinning knowledge
      • Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician status
      • Observable commitment to continuing professional development

      Desirable

      • Training in patient counselling
      • Supervisory skills
      • Medicines management accreditation
      • Training in quality improvement techniques

      Experience

      Essential

      • Demonstrable, post registration hospital or community pharmacy experience
      • Experience of working within a team environment
      • Effective in use of word, Excel, PowerPoint
      • Working knowledge of role of Medicines Safety Officer/Team
      • Knowledge of controlled drugs legislation
      • Ability to extract, manipulate and present data
      • Ability to problem solve within own scope of practice
      • Ability to organise and prioritise own work effectively
      • Able to work under pressure with effective time management skills
