Your Opportunity:
The Mental Health Clinician is a new position with the Addiction and Mental Health Supported Housing team and offers a broad range of opportunities to positively impact individuals living with addiction and mental health concerns within the houseless sector. This position will work with our teams that support NiGiNan Housing and is split between Ambrose Place and Pimatisiwin. Both sites provide long term supported housing to primarily Indigenous clients. The position will be responsible for intake and screening, assessment, treatment planning, case management, crisis intervention, consultation and system navigation. The MHC will support the psychiatric services at the sites and liaise with the physicians as needed. As a Mental Health Clinician, you will be required to provide psychosocial interventions using a wide range of treatment modalities. An important part of this role is collaboration with multiple community partners and service providers. Relationship building with site operators is a key piece to success in the role. Our clinicians are recovery oriented, concurrent capable, culturally competent and committed to providing high-quality service. They are able to work independently and also as a team. Description:
As a Mental Health Clinician, you will work as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team collaborating on the delivery of care for the needs of individuals, families and/or communities. You will be responsible for the intake, clinical interviews, and screening of clients with addiction and mental health disorders. You will liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and work collaboratively with other team members as required. You may have the opportunity to participate in program planning, development and to provide supervision to practicum students. This position is open to Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Registered Social Workers, Registered Psychologists, and Registered Occupational Therapists.
Completion of a master's degree in psychology; a bachelor's degree in social work incorporating education in mental health assessment, brief counseling, and crisis intervention; a master's or bachelor's degree in occupational therapy with similar educational components; a bachelor's degree in nursing with training and experience in mental health assessment, crisis intervention, and brief counseling; or a bachelor's degree in psychiatric nursing. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.
Additional Required Qualifications:A minimum of 3 years of relevant mental health and addiction experience, with preference given to community settings. Strong skills with crisis intervention, assessment and relationship building. Experience in providing psychosocial interventions. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS-HCP) is required. A vehicle and willingness to transport clients to appointments (as needed) is required. Extensive knowledge of community resources.
Preferred Qualifications:Excellent communication and self-management skills. Flexibility, openness, and a desire to be a strong team player. If registered with the ACSW, preference will be given to those with authorization to perform restricted psychosocial interventions.
