The Mental Health Specialist – Adult Services is a transitionary role for graduates of eligible master’s level programs who are not yet licensed. The Mental Health Specialist – Adult Services role serves as an interim placement to provide therapeutic services to individuals in the Adult Outpatient Therapy program through individual, family, and group modalities on an outpatient basis under the supervision of a licensed professional. The Adult Outpatient Therapy program services help people work through their thoughts and feelings, learning new coping skills to reach their goals through a variety of different therapy modalities and other evidence-based practices.

  Under the supervision of a licensed Program Team Supervisor, the Mental Health Specialist – Adult Services will:

  • Provide clinically appropriate outpatient, individual counseling, therapy, and/or psychotherapy with individuals, family therapy, and group therapy through a variety of different therapy modalities and other evidence-based practices.
  • Provide thorough and complete assessment, at intake and annually, to assess the client’s history and identify treatment needs.
  • Develops a person-centered plan with each assigned client to identify needs and interventions to meet those needs and reviews plan at stated levels.
  • Responsible for monitoring, evaluating, and recording client progress with respect to treatment goals. Modify person-centered plans according to change in client status.
  • Completes the appropriate level of functioning tools at policy stated intervals.
  • Provide crisis intervention when needed. Completion of lethality risk assessments as indicated (e.g. suicide/homicide/potential for violence/substance use) with dispositions and recommendations that are included in IPOS.
  • May provide basic coordination of services for each assigned client as needed or required by the treatment plan to coordinate services.
  • Participate in applicable team meetings as assigned to promote coordination of care.
  • Utilize a trauma-informed approach to services.
  • Complete all required documentation completely, accurately, and in accordance with CNS
    policy.
  • Meet direct service productivity and documentation standards per agency and program expectations.
  • Maintain compliance with quality care initiatives including Meaningful Use (MU), Medicare Merit Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS), Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), and Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) requirements.
  • Ensure that the CNS Healthcare standards of service are applied to interactions with individuals served, guests, and staff.
  • Assume responsibility for professional growth by current reading and attendance at educational programs and conferences.
  • Maintain knowledge and compliance with established policies and procedures, corporate compliance program, code of ethics, applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, HIPAA standards, and other regulatory programs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  Qualifications:

  Required

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or Marriage and Family Therapy
  • Eligibility to obtain state licensure: Limited-Licensed Master’s Social Worker (LLMSW), Licensed Master’s Social Worker (LMSW), Limited-Licensed Professional Counselor (LLPC), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Limited-Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LLMFT), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Temporary Limited-License Psychologist (TLLP), OR Limited-Licensed Psychologist (LLP)
  • At least one year of experience in the examination, evaluation, and treatment of minors and their families, can include internship or field placement experience.

  • Valid and unrestricted Driver’s License

  • Transportation or Automobile accessibility with current automobile/vehicle insurance meeting agency policy requirements

  • Proficient with computers and Microsoft office products

  • Ability to work closely with persons with mental or physical limitations
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively and build positive working relationships
  • Knowledge and experience with interventions used to treat psychiatric, substance use, intellectual, and developmental disabilities and diagnoses.
  • Ability to use discretion and judgment when handling matters of a sensitive or confidential nature
  • Ability to contribute to an inclusive environment that recognizes the value and contributions of all persons regardless of race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, religion, age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability

  Preferred

  • Proficient in the use of electronic health records (EHRs)
  • Prior experience in a community mental health setting.
