- Provides consultative services to staff and parents within a defined pre-referral process
- Provides mental health assessments for eligible students, along with the development and implementation of individual care plans for these students.
- Serves as liaison between the school, family and community mental health resources for eligible students on caseload.
- Completes and maintains documentation of services provided in accordance with district policies and procedures.
- Provides crisis response and direct support to students, staff, and families.
- Provides group treatment for identified students.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the administrator.
- Approval by the State Department of Education or the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) as one of the following:
- A psychiatrist;
- A licensed master’s level psychologist;
- A limited licensed master’s level psychologist, under the supervision of a licensed master’s level psychologist;
- A MDE credentialed master’s level school psychologist;
- A licensed master’s level marriage and family therapist;
- A licensed master’s level professional counselor (LPC);
- A limited licensed master’s level professional counselor (LPC), under the supervision of a licensed master’s level professional counselor;
- A licensed master’s level social worker (MSW);
- A licensed master’s level school social worker (SSW);
- A limited licensed master’s level social worker (LMSW), under the supervision of a licensed master’s level social worker
- One-year experience in social work, counseling, or psychology practice, in a school or clinical setting which can include master’s level social work, counseling, or psychology internship.
- Knowledge of theoretical content in treatment modes for mental health practice and ability to apply these to a school-based setting.
- Demonstrated skills and successful experience in counseling/therapy with individuals, groups of students, and their families.
- Knowledge of state and federal mandates which directly affect mental health services.
- Ability to work and effectively communicate with administrators, staff, agencies, medical providers, students, and their families.
- Self-directedness, flexibility and initiative when given a variety of responsibilities and assigned tasks.

Job Description What You’ll Do
Under the direct supervision of the administrator and in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the Ingham Intermediate School District, the Mental Health Specialist is responsible for providing therapeutic supportive services for eligible students. The Mental Health Specialist provides student assessment, therapy, consultation, case planning, crisis response and the provision of direct service.
Need to Have
The Mental Health Specialist will be provided office space within educational settings. This position requires daily travel, for which the staff member must provide transportation. This position will interface with LEA and IISD staff, community providers, agency personnel, and families.
