      Hucclecote Surgery has an exciting opportunity for a salaried GP under the ARRS scheme to work within our well-established, stable and innovative training GMS practice which is based on the outskirts of Gloucester City with a patient list size of 9,000. CQC rating is good and we will be moving late 2026 to a purpose built new surgery.

      This recruitment is under the PCN ARR role allocation. We are therefore, looking for a newly qualified GP who has obtained the CCT within the last 2 years of date of commencing the role. In return we will be offering the successful candidate a mentorship contract to develop skills, knowledge, and experience of working within a busy and friendly GP surgery.

      Main duties of the job

      Job Summary:

      Mentorship GP ARR role to develop a newly qualified GP who has obtained the CCT within the last 2 years of date of commencing the role. Mentorship will be provided to develop clinical skills, clinical knowledge and working as part of a busy GP practice.

      The post-holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and non-registered patients.

      Our GP day consists of an AM and PM session with a mixture of 15 minute face-to-face and 10 minute telephone calls, with 60 minutes of GP-bookable follow up slots per day to prioritise continuity of care. The GPs meet every day for a 40-minute coffee break, which we find is invaluable for supporting and communicating to each other.

      About us

      You will be supported by an excellent clinical team which comprises of 5 x GP Partners, 2 x salaried GPs, a nursing team who manage chronic diseases. Hucclecote Surgery is a member of the North & South Gloucester Primary Care Network and we are fortunate to have a full complement of prescribing pharmacist supported by pharmacy technicians, social prescriber, mental health nurse, care coordinator and frailty nurses.

      As a training practice with two trainers, 'and a tutor for medical students, 'we are experienced in supervising ST2s and ST3s. We often host two Registrars plus Year 3, 4 and 5 Medical Students. We value continuous professional development for both clinical and non-clinical staff.

      Our administrative team is led by an experienced Practice Manager and includes an Assistant Practice Manager, Patient Advisors, Medical Secretaries, and Business Support Administrators who all help to manage GP workflow to reduce the administrative burden on our GPs.

      Clinical Responsibilities:

      • The post-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion
      • Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation
      • Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
      • Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
      • In consultation with patients and in line with current disease management protocols, developing care plans for health
      • Providing counselling and health education
      • Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate and in keeping with guidelines.
      • Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
      • Collecting data for audit purposes
      • Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible)
      • Prescribing in accordance with the prescribing formulary and guidelines and with NHS Gloucestershire guidelines whenever this is clinically appropriate.
      • Participate in the training and supervision of other clinicians (within the post-holders areas of competency)
      • In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
