      JOB TITLE: Metadata Librarian

      DEPARTMENT: Research Library, Archives & Collections Information

      REPORTS TO: Digital Asset Manager

      CLASSIFICATION : Full-Time, Exempt

      GENERAL SUMMARY

      Under the guidance of the Digital Asset Manager the Metadata Libr arian will assist in maintaining structure to the museum’s collection of digitized and born-digital assets, using best practices to drive the use of taxonomies and metadata schema within asset management systems . The Librarian is responsible for maintaining data dictionaries, controlled vocabularies, schema governance and data integrity/enforcement.

      ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

      • Incorporate both existing standardized metadata schema and define new schemas for digital asset systems .
      • Reconcile differences in taxonomies and metadata across teams .
      • Ensure metadata is defined to the most current professional standards and use of language through an Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access lens.
      • Establish maintenance systems for taxonomies and schemas .
      • Partner with departments to define workflows and standards for metadata .
      • Identify user requirements by researching and analyzing user needs, preferences, objectives , and working methods; studying how users consume content, including data categorization and labeling; meet with stakeholders.
      • Plan information architecture by studying the system concept, strategy, and target audience; translate user behavior into system structure .
      • Assist with fulfilling internal and external rights and reproductions requests .
      • Suppor t uploading (ingestion) of assets and management of the Digital Asset Management System .
      • Provide training to Digital Asset Management System users on file namin g and metadata .
      • Support data review, cleanup, standardization, integrity, reporting and migration projects across the organization .
      • Apply DIA values to interactions to support a culture of belonging among internal and external stakeholders.
      • Perform other duties as assigned.

      QUALIFICATIONS

      EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

      Master’s degree in Library and Information Science , or related field. Three ( 3 ) years of experience working with digital assets, digital archiving and digital preservation, and metadata and data structure standards . Additional years of experience may be substituted for degree requirement.

      KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

      • Knowledge and experience with metadata , taxonomies, and schemas .
      • Experience with mapping and developing structures .
      • Ability to successfully partner with diverse stakeholders, understand their needs, and develop solutions.
      • Knowledge and experience of copyright and data protection issues.
      • Experience with d igital a sset m anagement s ystem s .
      • Ability to successfully partner with technical support and vendors to resolve issues.
      • Experience with training and providing technical support .
      • Ability to work occasional weekend and evening hours for special events (If needed) .
      • Must be proficient in latest version of Office 365.
      • Must have proficiency in the use of remote work technology such as scheduling with, connecting to, and using digital collaboration platforms such as Microsoft Teams.
      • Ability to work well under pressure, handle multiple priorities/projects, and meet deadlines, as well as strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail .
      • Must be able to establish and maintain professional, productive, and courteous interactions that promote positive teamwork . This encompasses going beyond giving and receiving instructions and includes but is not limited to (a) performing work activities requiring interacting or speaking with others; and (b) responding appropriately to constructive feedback or suggestions for improvement from a supervisor .
