- Assists in the coordination, implementation, and evaluation of the specified program activities.
- Complete QPR certification training within first 90 days of employment. Complete YMHFA Instructor certification within first 6 months.
- Coordinate with partners to schedule and conduct 1.5-hour QPR trainings with youth and parents/professionals working with youth and 8 hour YMHFA to adults working with youth
- May be responsible for coordination and implementation of new Peer Health Advocate Program focusing on mental health and other sensitive topics in East County.
- Be available to offer training during some evening and weekend hours to meet the needs of the project.
- May be asked to participate in field activities, with the purpose of creating awareness of SYH facilities and services including health education and patient self-management programs.
- Will help implement and coordinate the administration of questionnaires and referrals, maintaining participant confidentiality, and quality of the data.
- Establishes and maintains linkages with both in-house resources and community partners, assuring their effective use to achieve program goals and objectives.
- Completes reporting requirements and other areas as requested.
- Completes operations and training goals and objectives.
- Completes reports required by funding entities on a timely fashion.
- Participates in program meetings with collaborators at different sites thru ought San Diego, representing SYH and the Center for Research and Health Promotion.
- Ensures that staff adheres to SYH policies and procedures.
- Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
- Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops.
- Maintains program specific records as required; submits reports, including activity, contact and mileage reports in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
- Attends training programs as authorized or directed.
- Attends meetings and/or training sessions as required and participates on committees as directed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in a health-related
- field and 1 year of health education experience.
- 2 years in a position comparable to Health Educator counselor.
- Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Experience in coordinating programs in the public health field; or minimum 1 year experience in community health and/or health education.
- Experience implementing evidence- based curriculum and trainings.
- Valid CA Driver’s license and insurance – required
- Regular & reliable access to personal vehicle
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experienced in program implementation & documentation.
- Ability to handle multiple activities simultaneously.
- Capability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Must maintain confidentiality at all levels.
- General office equipment to include Computers, phones, copy machines, fax machines, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- This position is intended to be a hybrid role, where the incumbent will be expected to work “On-Site” two days per week.
- Prolonged sitting position. Frequent walking and standing at outreach events. May be required to work evening and weekend hours. Be able to carry a minimum of 20 pounds.
- Traveling within San Diego is expected in this role.

SYH’s Center for Research & Health Promotion augments the health center’s clinical care with health promotion, research and care coordination programs for patients and community members. Under the direct supervision of the Program Supervisor, and Sr. Program Manager, the Youth Mental Health Program Coordinator/Trainer will help coordinate various aspects of specified programs, as well as provide guidance and oversight of activities. The coordinator will be responsible for the effective functioning of program activities, the efficient use of program resources, and for timely reaching program goals and objectives.
For the purposes of this position, the Program Coordinator/Trainer will serve as Trainer and Program Coordinator, certified to teach QPR and Youth Mental Health First AID Training to school and social service personnel, parents and other people working with youth, as well as lead programs with youth around mental health and other sensitive topics. Program Coordinator may also be responsible for the implementation and delivery of a Peer Health program in East County. Program Coordinator will be responsible for all aspects of the training courses such as community/school outreach, building partnerships in schools and community agencies, marketing, tracking participant data, building partnerships with SYH Behavioral Health team, and other support for mental health trainings in the community.
