Job Description

- $520 supplemental pay while the department maintains accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).
- $720 dry cleaning allowance.
- $3,250 hazardous duty pay.
- $2,392 estimated supplemental pay of 4%* for employees who maintain their Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) certification.
- $1,495 estimated supplemental pay of 2.5%* for employees who have passed the 40-hour Miami-Dade Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training.
- $1,560 maximum educational supplement (Biweekly amount varies based on level of academic achievement per section 943.22 of Florida Statutes).
- $1,950 physical fitness assessment pay for employees who pass the annual City of Miami Beach Police Department’s physical fitness assessment.
- $676 quality of life supplemental pay for employees who satisfy the certification requirements set by the City of Miami Beach Police Department.
- $1,495 estimated supplemental pay of 2.5%* for employees who are conversationally proficient in a second language (exam required).
- Our defined benefit pension plan has a generous multiplier of 3% (10.5% employee contribution required).
- Participants in the pension fund become fully vested in ten years.
- You can receive up to 85% of your average highest salary upon retirement based on tenure.
- City employees do not pay Social Security taxes
- Receive regular pay increases based on merit.
- Receive twelve annual days of vacation and sick leave, each accrued on a biweekly basis.
- Receive your birthday as holiday and three floating holidays per year.
- Enjoy ten paid designated holidays per year.
- We offer up to 6 weeks of paid parental leave.
- Begin accruing vacation and sick leave on your first day of employment.
- You will be eligible to participate in one of the group medical and dental health insurance plans, 1st of the month after 30 days of employment . The cost for single and family coverage is subsidized by the city.

Base Salary and Additional Supplemental Pay The starting salary for a Miami Beach Certified Police Officer is $57,934 but when biweekly supplemental pay is included, the extended annual salary can be as much as $71,991 This does not include the additional compensation provided by possible overtime and off-duty opportunities, including the following:

NOTE: Signing Bonus program effective November 1, 2021 - Subject to Availability of Approved Funding:
Certified: $15,000
• $5,000 upon completion of FTO Program
• $5,000 after completion of Probation
• $5,000 after honorable completion of another full year after probation
Police Officer Trainee: $10,000
• $2,500 upon graduation from academy and passing the state exam
• $2,500 after completion of the FTO program
• $2,500 after successful completion of probation
• $2,500 after honorable completion of another full year after probation
Pay scale: Certified hires with 3 years or greater of experience start in Step B of the pay scale
*Subject to collective bargaining agreement with FOP*
