    • Teach music appreciation, harmony, instrumental and vocal music (band, chorus, choir, ensemble), aligned with the curriculum approved by the Board of Education.
    • Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
    • Plans a balanced music program and organizes daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal, and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
    • Provides individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil. Uses repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary, that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of pupils.
    • Plans and teaches lessons in flexible licensing areas (“Any License”) that promote the growth and development of college and career readiness skills.
    • Controls the storage and use of school-owned property.
    • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and musical performances.
    • Evaluates each pupil’s musical growth and performance, assessing each individual’s contribution to the performance of the group.
    • Plans, rehearses, and directs pupils in musical programs for school and community.
    • Selects and requisitions materials, and maintains required inventory records.
    • Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress.
    • Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils.
    • Cooperates with the school administration in providing musical programs for school productions, graduation ceremonies, and civic functions
    • Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities as assigned.
    • Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs
    • Participates in faculty committees and sponsorship of pupil activities.
    • Maintains professional competence through in-service education provided by the district, and in self-selected professional growth activities related to music.

      QUALIFICATIONS:
      1. Indiana Teachers License
      2. Bachelor Degree with a major in Music
      3. Additional licensure in an additional subject area preferred, but not required
      4. Interest in sponsoring or coaching extra-curricular activities
      5. Other qualifications as deemed appropriate by the School Board

      REPORTS TO: Building Principal

      JOB GOAL: To cultivate a lifelong appreciation for music as a vital part of culture and education; develop students’ instrumental skills, foster musical creativity, and guide students in building a strong foundation in music theory, performance, and ensemble collaboration.
