Kindle Education is an intentionally diverse 6th-12th grade public charter school that aims to cultivate an equitable community of purposeful individuals who are prepared to navigate our current world and build our future. We believe that a new model of school is required to meet the demands of the 21st century and we are excited to build it. We opened our doors to 66 6th grade students in the fall of 2023 in Jersey City, NJ. We will add an additional grade of 66 students this fall.

We are seeking a dynamic Middle School Dean of Culture with a demonstrated ability to achieve academic and social-emotional outcomes for students. This role will start July 1, 2024. This role will report to the Co-CEO: School Leader of Programming.

      Spark Change

Below is a brief overview, intended to be neither comprehensive nor binding. A flame is organic, never fixed, and we see the development of our school and team in the same way.

As the Middle School Dean of Culture at Kindle Education, you will:

      • Lead the cultivation of a joyful and respectful community, building positive relationships among students, staff, and families to enhance the school's values and promote a culture that respects and celebrates diversity.
      • Proactively develop and implement systems and strategies to ensure a positive and focused learning environment and address behavioral challenges effectively, using data-driven decision-making to inform interventions and restorative practices.
      • Champion restorative practices, guiding restorative circles and conflict resolution efforts to support a nurturing and supportive school culture, emphasizing the importance of understanding and empathy in conflict resolution.
      • Train staff to effectively implement systems and strategies, empowering them with the skills and knowledge needed to foster a supportive, restorative, and dynamic learning environment, ensuring all staff members are equipped to support diverse learning needs and cultural backgrounds.
      • Lead the organization and execution of community events and initiatives, fostering school spirit, inclusivity, and a strong sense of belonging among all school members, and actively engaging families and community partners in the school’s culture.
      • Support the Co-CEO in maintaining a strategic approach to supervising teachers, focusing on classroom observation and data analysis. Help hold teachers accountable, ensure they fulfill their responsibilities, and provide feedback to maintain high culture standards and effective team management.
      • Collaborate closely with the leadership team and Co-CEOs to ensure alignment and implementation of school-wide systems and structures for student and staff culture, including efforts to enhance diversity and inclusion within the school community.
      • Other Duties: Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Co-CEOs, always with an eye towards fostering an inclusive, respectful, and data-informed school environment.

      Forge Futures

We are looking for creative and adaptive self-starters who are eager to take on the challenge of cultivating an environment that prepares every child to navigate our current world and build our future. At Kindle, we:

      • Foster Innovation: Adapt teaching methods and curriculum to meet diverse learners' needs, incorporating innovative, student-centered teaching strategies.
      • Navigate Ambiguity: Embrace the challenges and opportunities of a startup environment, taking initiative in the face of ambiguity and contributing to the development of our evolving systems.
      • Set and Achieve Goals: Set clear, achievable goals, develop actionable plans, and track progress to ensure successful outcomes for our students.
      • Embrace Challenges: Take calculated risks and employ creative problem-solving strategies to generate outcomes for students.
      • Engage in Reflective Practice: Practice regular reflection and continuous learning for personal and professional development.
      • Collaborate and Lead: Work effectively in a collaborative environment, inspiring and motivating colleagues and students toward shared goals.
      • Promote Inclusivity: Create an inclusive and equitable learning environment that respects and values diversity.
      • Love fire puns.
