- Work cooperatively with the principal, subject supervisors and other staff members to develop an integrated educational program for children.
- Teach a variety of physical activities, including individual and team sports, fitness exercises, and recreational games.
- Plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate lessons and activities that promote physical fitness, health, and wellness for assigned groups of children, including differentiated instruction, to meet individual needs of children. Adapt lessons and activities to accommodate students of various skill levels and abilities.
- Foster a positive learning environment that encourages participation, sportsmanship, and collaboration.
- Ensure the safety of students during physical activities and monitor the proper use of equipment. Stay up to date on safety protocols and first aid procedures.
- Properly refer to the IST process those children experiencing unusual difficulties.
- Effectively implement IEP’s and the 504 plan of identified children using the resources that are provided.
- Maintain a plan book as directed by the principal and submit plan book for review upon request. Have daily plans readily available for the use of a substitute in the event of absence.
- Evaluate and record children’s progress and attendance as a basis for planning and reporting to parents.
- Maintain acceptable standards of discipline in the classroom which promotes learning and supports the school-wide discipline plans.
- Provide immediate care and protect injured students until the services of nurse or other medical personnel are available. Follow building’s safety-emergency management plan.
- Perform additional duties such as lunchroom, bus, or recess as required.
- Maintain and extend professional knowledge and skills through activities such as graduate study, participation in staff development, professional reading and other appropriate activities as defined in the District’s Act 48 Plan.
- Support school programs and maintain a high standard of ethical professional conduct when dealing with associates, parents and other members of the community.
- Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the building principal.

TITLE: Physical Education Teacher – Middle School
REPORTS TO AND IS EVALUATED BY: Building Principal
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-time bargaining unit position – 10-month work year; FLSA Exempt.
ANTICIPATED START DATE: August 13, 2025
HOURS: 7:45am to 3:15pm
LOCATION: South Middle School
COMPENSATION: In accordance with PEA Collective Bargaining Agreement
PRINCIPAL FUNCTION: The Middle School Physical Education Teacher is responsible for promoting physical fitness and overall well-being among students through engaging and dynamic physical education programs. This role involves designing and implementing activities that encourage students to develop physical skills, improve fitness levels, and foster teamwork and sportsmanship. The PE teacher plays a vital role in nurturing the physical, mental, and emotional development of students.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: Bachelor’s degree; Pennsylvania Teacher Certification – Health and Physical Education PK-12
