    • Plans a program of study that addresses the individual needs, interests and abilities of students.
    • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of students.
    • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and - in harmony with the goals - establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects.
    • Employs instructional methods and materials that are appropriate for meeting stated objectives to meet the learning needs of all students.
    • Assesses student performance for the purpose of informing instruction and to provide timely feedback to students; completes interim progress report cards, as required.
    • Provide instruction for the diverse learning needs of students at all ability levels through scaffolding, curriculum compacting, and differentiated lessons; implements response to intervention strategies, modification and accommodations to the general curriculum.
    • Consults with colleagues, students and/or parents regarding the educational, health, social and emotional needs of students.
    • Assists the administration in implementing and supervising all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
    • Integrates technology in the design and implementation of lessons and encourages students to express learning using a variety of technologies and mediums.
    • Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for instructional associate(s), resource assistant(s) and/or volunteer(s) and, cooperatively with department heads, evaluates their job performance.
    • Participates in professional development activities at the building and district level through development of annual professional development plans and collaboration with colleagues.
    • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
    • Supervises extracurricular activities that relate to individual teaching assignments or areas assigned by the building administrator.
    • Performs such other duties as directed by the building administrator.
    • Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment
    • Master’s Degree Preferred

      REPORTS TO: Principal or designee

      SUPERVISES: Instructional associate, resource assistant and volunteers assigned.

      JOB GOAL: To help students learn subject matter and/or skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible adults; to assist students in achieving the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards.

      QUALIFICATIONS PROFILE:
      New Jersey Elementary Education Certificate with Subject Matter Specialization in Science or New Jersey Teacher of Science Certificate

      EDUCATION:
      • Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment
      • Master’s Degree Preferred
      EVALUATION:
      Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with state and board regulations/policies by the building principal or designee.
