    • Develop and implement engaging units and lesson plans based on state academic standards.
    • Employ a variety of instructional techniques, including inquiry-based learning, Socratic discussions, document-based questioning (DBQs), simulations, debates, and technology integration.
    • Connect historical and civic concepts to students’ lives, encouraging real-world applications and relevance.
    • Scaffold content to ensure access for all learners, including English language learners, students with IEPs/504s, and gifted students.
    • Integrate literacy strategies such as close reading, annotation, text-based evidence, and academic vocabulary.
    • Design formative and summative assessments to evaluate student understanding and mastery of content.
    • Use assessment data to modify instruction and provide targeted interventions or extensions.
    • Provide timely, constructive feedback to students and maintain accurate records of academic progress.
    • Establish and maintain clear classroom procedures and behavior expectations that promote respect, responsibility, and engagement.
    • Foster a positive learning environment that reflects different cultures, perspectives, and histories.
    • Differentiate instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles and needs.
    • Collaborate with grade-level teams, content-area teachers, and instructional coaches to plan interdisciplinary units and improve teaching practices.
    • Participate in ongoing professional development and stay current on best practices in history education and pedagogy.
    • Communicate regularly with families about student progress, classroom activities, and upcoming projects or assessments.
    • Attend and contribute to staff meetings, parent-teacher conferences, open houses, and school events.
    • Uphold school and district policies and contribute to a positive school culture.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Social Studies Education, or a closely related field
    • Valid teaching license/certification for middle school or secondary Social Studies (as required by the state)
    • Demonstrated understanding of adolescent development and middle school philosophy
    • Proficiency in integrating technology into instruction and assessment
    • Bachelor’s degree in Social Studies Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or related field
    • Prior teaching experience at the middle school level (not required)
    • Deep content knowledge of middle school social studies topics
    • Strong classroom management and organizational skills
    • Ability to build rapport with diverse students and families
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Reflective practitioner committed to continuous improvement
