      Position Summary

      n

      Our coaches are actively engaged in the Bayview Hunters Point community, and embrace the mission and values of KIPP Bayview Academy. The Basketball Coach is to be responsible for coaching, character development and providing direction to student athletes so that they might achieve a high level of skill as well as an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship and teamwork in that sport. The Coach will also facilitate training and practice activities, as well as participate in conducting and organizing tryouts during the regular season and assist the head varsity coach in offseason open courts when needed. This is a seasonal, temporary role reporting to the Athletic Director.

      Preferred Qualifications

      Experience/Education/Licensing:

      n
        n
      • Possess a thorough knowledge of the chosen sport, a sophisticated understanding of coaching and training strategies, and a demonstrated ability to enhance student-athlete development.
      • n
      • Have played the sport which you want to coach. Ideally have coached previously.
      • n
      • At least 2 to 3 years of High School or Club coaching experience required
      • n
      • High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor's degree encouraged)
      • n
      • Valid CA license (Class C) and current insurance coverage
      • n
      • Safe driving record (will be ask to provide a DMV report)
      • n
      n

      Knowledge/skills required/abilities:

      n
        n
      • All school coaches should be familiar with the rules and regulations of the sports they plan on coaching
      • n
      • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with faculty, staff, administrators, students, parents, and community members
      • n
      • Ability to coach athletes of different skill levels
      • n
      • Ability to communicate through e-mail and phone

      n

      • A high school diploma or higher

      • High school/College tennis team/tournament playing experience preferred

      Essential Functions and Responsibilities

      n
        n
      • Coaching - organize and direct team: be present at all practices and games. Practices and games will occur Monday through Friday.u00A0
      • n
      • Follow and uphold the policies and mission statement of KIPP Bayview Academy.
      • n
      • Instruct and demonstrate skill sets and techniques necessary for individual and team development.
      • n
      • Ensure that team rules and regulations regarding conduct and eligibility of the athletes are clearly communicated and followed.
      • n
      • Plan, organize, advertise, and conduct tryouts for the particular sports program; inform the Athletic Department and participants of final selections. Maintain the integrity of the selection process.
      • n
      • Consult with the Athletic Director regarding any off-season training programs, including scheduling dates for summer camps/practices, uniform fitting, pre-post tryout informational parent meetings.
      • n
      • Create a safe environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
      • n
      • Supervise athletes at all times during practices, transport to games, games and until athletes have been picked up by guardians, or make arrangements to ride public transportation.
      • n
      • Model good sportsmanship behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards the opposing team, fans, parents, officials, spectators and community.
      • n
      • Completes Required forms and documents in a timely manner.
      • n
      • Participates in all required coaches, student athlete and parent meetings scheduled by the Athletic Directors
      • n
      n

      Training

      • Complete required safety training for basic first aid and injury prevention available through SafeSchools and NFHS Learn, including, but not limited to:
      • n
      • Annually - mandated reporter, bloodborne pathogens, concussion in sports, sudden cardiac arrest, heat illness prevention https://www.nfhslearn.com/

      Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands;

      Physical:

      • Ability to navigate office and school campuses, and hold meetings in different spaces. Traditionally, much of the day involves sitting. Ability to access and utilize technology. Occasional lifting/carrying of equipment 20 -40 lbs.

      • Stress of deadlines and normal work standards, ability to analyze problems and generate alternatives, work with interruptions, concentrate for long periods of time, read, calculate, perform routine math problems, memorize and recall objects and people.

      • Gym or field environment will usually contain both participants and spectators. Location of gyms and fields in San Francisco will vary. In an emergency context (e.g., pandemic), the season may be postponed or cancelled.
