The Dalton School, a progressive K-12 gender-inclusive school in Manhattan’s Upper East Side, is consistently recognized as one of the preeminent independent day schools in the nation. Known for its child-centered approach and an exceptional, inspiring faculty, Dalton enrolls over 1,300 students with approximately 350 faculty and staff. Guided by the Dalton Plan, the foundation of a Dalton education, our faculty meets each student’s evolving needs, interests, and abilities, and fosters diversity as an integral part of school life. Dalton challenges each student to develop intellectual independence, creativity, curiosity, and a sense of responsibility toward others both within the School and in the broader community.
We are seeking a part-time cross divisional (MS/HS, grades 4-12) Mandarin teacher for the academic school year 2025-2026 to join a passionate and dedicated language department. The Dalton Mandarin program fosters strong levels of proficiency in our Mandarin students. Through content-rich thematic units, Mandarin learners at Dalton interact with language, culture, and content in every lesson. We engage in opportunities for professional growth and encourage reflection on our own practices. Our ideal candidate has experience teaching MS and HS language and can easily teach Mandarin as a vehicle through which to learn content. We are looking for someone with native-like proficiency who enjoys teaching middle school students as young as 4th grade and high school students up to grade 12. Experience teaching MS/HS Mandarin, knowledge of different methodologies like TPRS, and understanding of ACTFL standards and proficiency guidelines is a plus.
