      About our team

      DS Executive | Executive Coordination | Ministerial & Parliamentary | Parliamentary

      The Ministerial and Parliamentary Branch provides support to the Home Affairs portfolio Ministers' Offices, and support and advice to the Department of Home Affairs' Senior Executive in relation to Ministerial and Parliamentary matters. The Branch consists of four sections: Parliamentary Section, Ministerial Support Section, Ministerial Correspondence and Parliamentary Document Management System (PDMS) Section, and the Cabinet Liaison Office (CLO). The Branch also provides Department Liaison Officer (DLO) support to the portfolio Ministers' Offices.

      The Performance, Governance and Inquiries (PGI) Branch is a central point of support and oversight for the Department, providing strategic advice and guidance to the Department, Executive and relevant Portfolio Ministers. All roles within PGI Branch provide an excellent opportunity to gain an understanding of the broader work of the portfolio, including boarder policy and security, emergency planning and management, counter terrorism and cyber transport security.

      Our ideal candidate

      We are looking for an experienced manager to lead small, high performing teams that provide support and advice to top-level decision makers and principal advisors across government. We want candidates who enjoy working in a fast paced, rapidly evolving, and forward-thinking environment who can represent the portfolio at the highest levels.

      The successful candidates will have a demonstrated capacity to develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, and work closely with colleagues across the Branch to deliver key outcomes for our portfolio Ministers and senior executive.

      The successful candidates will have exceptional service delivery experience and can provide advice and support in relation to Ministerial submissions, briefs and correspondence and will work closely with the DLOs in the Ministers' Offices, portfolio senior executive and their offices, and colleagues across government. In addition, the successful candidate will be able to provide advice to a range of stakeholders about Parliamentary and Cabinet business and processes.

      Duties and responsibilities

      • Lead a small team in providing exceptional service and support to the portfolio's Ministers' offices and senior executive
      • Proactively engage with all areas of the Home Affairs portfolio, and across government
      • Identify opportunities for improvements to procedures and processes, whilst nurturing expertise within the Branch.

      • Strong focus on service delivery, with a demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
      • Rapid acquisition of an understanding of Australia's system of government and Parliamentary and Cabinet processes
      • Excellent time management skills, including the ability to work independently to prioritise workloads and meet tight deadlines
      • An ability to exercise sound judgement and to think strategically and creatively in a fast-paced work environment
      • Proven capacity to work well in a team
      • Staff across all sections may be required to work extended hours on occasion.

      To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

      The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance and an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
