The M edical Laboratory Technician/Medical Laboratory Scientist Intern will perform a variety of duties under the direct supervision of a registered MT, MLS or MLT. The Intern will have the opportunity to develop new necessary knowledge and skills in laboratory diagnostic care to become a certified MLT or MLS.

This i nternship position is a combination of mandatory academic and clinical training that covers clinical chemistry. Other opportunities to learn skills and theory in other laboratory depts may become available. The Intern will have the understanding that he/she will be required to pass an ASCP or AMT board exam within two years of completing the HMC Intern program.

After the completion of this internship program, the intern will be obligated to work a minimum of two years of employment at Holyoke Medical Center Laboratory if any part-time or full-time position is available. If no positions are available, Holyoke Medical Center will hire the intern as a per diem employee for a minimum of six months to help the intern achieve the requirements of the ASCP or AMT certification requirements.

REQUIREMENTS:

• B achelor ’ s degree in a chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science or medical technology program from an accredited institution.
• Must have completed classes that meet the ASCP requirements to become an MLT or MLS.
• A minimum of 6 months experience in a hospital laboratory setting
• At least two laboratory references are required.
