Three (3) years of experience in academic advising or counseling in higher education including the use of early alert systems/tools. A bachelor’s degree may substitute for one (1) year of professional experience, an associate’s degree may substitute for six (6) months’ experience.
Demonstrated experience with program evaluation, policy development, and making, recommending, and implementing changes.
Experience and professional development in diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and justice,along with supporting diverse populations.
Strong organizational and project management skills to manage multiple priorities and meet competing deadlines.
Ability to establish productive working relationships with community stakeholders, faculty, staff, students, parents, and administration.
Independent problem-solving skills and the ability to handle high-stress situations effectively.
Strategic thinking related to enrollment management and retention initiatives, and the ability to conduct and participate in meetings to accomplish tasks.
Bachelor’s degree in higher education administration, student affairs, student development or related field
5 years professional experience in higher education
Experience supervising professional or graduate student staff in higher education.
Experience working in a collective bargaining environment
Expertise with retention initiatives and software systems
Experience within Minnesota State
Working knowledge of Workday, ISRS, Hobson, ImageNow, DARS, CMS Systems, Starfish or other retention software
Experience developing and managing budgets
Bilingual or working professional proficiency in Somali, Spanish, or another language commonly used by students at Inver Hills and Dakota County Technical College

The Director of Advising for Inver Hills Community College and Dakota County Technical College provides supervision and leadership for academic advising functions including hiring, staffing, training, budget preparation, program development, professional development, project management, evaluation of services, and marketing. The Director partners with other leaders on both campuses to lead strategic initiatives designed to eliminate educational equity gaps, improve completion rates for degree-seeking students, and develop a more culturally responsive, service-oriented organizational culture. This position coordinates actions related to academic planning tools and advising software systems. In addition, this position collaborates with Academic Affairs to lead change efforts for student success, enrollment, and retention through a holistic advising lens.

Occasional evenings and weekend due events.
