ABOUT THIS JOB
The purpose of this position is to operate a variety of heavy equipment for the purposes of road/bridge construction and maintenance. This position is located in D05/Maintenance Section of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to HF 2. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties with minimal supervision and able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.

Job Duties:
Operates the following heavy equipment, as needed:
Perform duties as directed, such as shoveling asphalt, digging footings for setting concrete forms, placing traffic control devices, delivering, loading and unloading materials and /or equipment, flagging traffic, operating power and/or hand tools etc. May perform incidental repair and construction tasks such as installation of guardrail, fencing, pipe, catch basin, and drainage structure. Keeps records ad required by supervisor, which may include, petty cash tickets, requisitions, inventory, daily work reports etc. May be required to perform a wide variety of assigned duties and tasks necessary to accomplish the overall mission of the unit or section.
Performs minor repairs, services, preventative maintenance, and cleans equipment in accordance with operator’s manual and manufacture’s recommendations to keep equipment operating efficiently and safely.

As part of a Career Progression Group, this vacancy may be filled from this recruitment as a Mobile Equipment Operator 1, 2, or 1/Heavy depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s).
MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 1 - Class D, Chauffeur’s license will be required upon appointment. The starting salary for MEO-1 will be $16.06 hourly.
MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 2 - Class A, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) will be required upon appointment. The starting salary for MEO-2 will be $17.18 hourly.
MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 1/HEAVY - Class A, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) will be required upon appointment. The starting salary for MEO-1/HEAVY will be $21.05 hourly.

Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Mobile Equipment Operator 1, 2, or 1/Heavy
Work Schedule: Work hours are 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Thursday.
Compensation: This position is eligible for premium pay of up to $2.00 per hour. A 10% base pay increase will be granted upon attainment of permanent status for employees hired as a Mobile Equipment Operator 1 or 2.
