MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 1, 2, or 1/Heavy

MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 1:
Class D, Chauffeurs License will be required upon appointment. Starting salary for MEO-1 is $16.06/hourly; this job title receives Premium Pay in the amount of $1.00/hour for all hours worked. Additionally, a 10% base pay increase will be granted upon attainment of permanent status.
MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 2:
Class A, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) will be required upon appointment. Starting salary for MEO-2 is $17.18/hourly; this job title receives Premium Pay in the amount of $1.00/hour for all hours worked. Additionally, a 10% base pay increase will be granted upon attainment of permanent status.
MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 1/HEAVY:
Class A, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) will be required upon appointment. Starting salary for MEO-1/HEAVY is $21.05/hourly.

Function Statement:
The purpose of this position is to operate a variety of heavy equipment for the purposes of road/bridge construction and maintenance. This position is located in DISTRICT 07/ UNIT 580 of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to HIGHWAY FOREMAN 1. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties with minimal supervision and able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks. While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service Laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.
50% Operates the following heavy equipment, as needed:
40% Operates skid steers, rollers, jet air patcher, 72-hp tractors with 15ft. bat wing mowers, and tractor mounted slope mower. Installs and maintains temporary traffic control devices and serves as a flag person during traffic control operations. Uses a variety of hand tools such as: shovels, rakes, jackhammer, demolition saw, chain saw, string trimmer, and pole saw. Performs manual task such as pothole patching, manual cutting of bush and grass, ditch digging, cleaning buildings, assisting in mud jack operations, cutting trees, collecting litter, cleaning & repairing of Asphaltic Concrete and Portland Cement Concrete Pavements as well as bridge decks, and other manual tasks as need to accomplish the department’s mission.
5% Performs minor repairs, services, preventative maintenance, and cleans equipment in accordance with operator’s manual and manufacture’s recommendations to keep equipment operating efficiently and safely.
5% May be required to perform other duties as necessary, including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.

To operate mobile equipment (such as that enumerated below) to accomplish transportation, maintenance, or construction tasks.
Level of Work:
Experienced.
Supervision Received:
General from a foreman or other higher level maintenance, supervisory, or administrative personnel.
Supervision Exercised:
May exercise functional over lower graded equipment operators or laboring personnel.
Location of Work:
May be used by all agencies, statewide.
Job Distinctions:
Differs from Mobile Equipment Operator--Light by the requirement to operate larger mobile equipment with more complicated operating and handling characteristics.
Differs from Mobile Equipment Operator 2 by the restriction to primary operation of equipment that is lighter and/or less complicated to operate.
NOTE:
Operation of one or more of the types of equipment enumerated must be the primary, regular, and recurring function of the job.
Operates field tractor with power ratings up to and including 52 horsepower; tractors may be equipped with attachments such as bush hogs, belly attachments, blades, loaders, hoes, etc.
Operates field tractors with gang mowers up to eight feet across.
Operates dump trucks with rated capacity of six yards or less.
Operates vans and stake-body or flat bed trucks with load ratings over one ton and up to four tons.
Operates buses with 12 to 25 passenger capacity.
Operates forklifts with lifting capacity over 10,000 lbs. or lift height over 12 feet.
Operates steel wheel rollers.
Transports patients, students, workers, or other persons between homes and institutions, on trips on and/or off institution or agency grounds.
Operates auxiliary equipment such as asphalt kettle, mud jack, concrete mixer (over two bag capacity), air compressor, jack- hammer, etc. as required.
Provides guidance to and oversees work of lower graded operators and laborers, as required.
May be required to operate any equipment enumerated for the Mobile Equipment Operator--Light when necessary to accomplish work objectives.
Makes minor repairs to equipment and performs user maintenance necessary to keep equipment in clean, good working order.
