      The Molecular Biology Specialist supports the research and development and molecular biology capabilities for customer studies in Preclinical Services. The Specialist works under direct supervision to gain the necessary technical skills, years of experience and level of independence in molecular biology. The Specialist performs routine and non-routine laboratory tasks and maintenance including, analysis and compilation of data, accurate record keeping, use of project tracking software, ensuring workstation and laboratory cleanliness, preparation of reports, inventory upkeep, assist with creation of and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and associated documents and adherence to laboratory safety protocols.

      Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions

      • Executes, and documents molecular biology protocols with highly reproducible results in an efficient and timely manner. Techniques include, but are not limited to, PCR, qPCR, ELISAs, enzymatic assays, Western blot, Southern blot and RNA/DNA synthesis.

      • Accurate and detailed documentation of sample records is critical.

      • Assist with validation and design new assays or modify existing assays to answer new research questions. The ability to validate new assays to prove they work is a must.

      • Assist in teaching other team members on molecular biology techniques. Strong communication, record keeping, and teamwork are critical

      • Maintains a clean, safe and organized lab environment along with other members of the group

      • Assist in driving efficiencies by identifying, proposing and implementing process or technical improvements to increase throughput, reduce cost and decrease turnaround time.

      • Collaborates with the team to leverage knowledge to maximize success and resource use

      • Demonstrates and drives a positive, high-performance environment with a culture of teamwork, continuous improvement and customer focus.


      Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

      • B.S. in a Molecular Biology, Genetics or related discipline

      • Minimum of 3 years of in-depth experience performing molecular biology research or an advanced degree with 4 years’ experience.

      • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively exchange information and handle problems with people from a wide variety of background levels

      • Demonstrated ability to utilize standard office software (Excel, Powerpoint, Word, etc.) or other Project Management/LIMS software solutions.

      • Ability to learn and execute applicable technical skills

      • Knowledge in mouse study is preferred

      Pay Range: $23.17 - $38.80 based on total years of related experience
