      Description

By joining Bio-Techne, you’ll join a company with a powerful and positive purpose of enabling cutting-edge research in Life Sciences and Clinical Diagnostics. Bio-Techne, and all of its brands, provides tools for researchers to further treat and prevent disease worldwide.

All internship positions are designed to give college students an opportunity to apply techniques learned in an academic setting while obtaining new skills. This is a paid internship offering full-time hours during the summer months. All interns are required to conclude the program by giving a formal presentation on their work. Please note that no relocation assistance is provided for the internship program.

      The Opportunity

Bio-Techne empowers researchers in Life Science and Clinical Diagnostics by providing high-quality reagents, instruments, custom manufacturing, and testing services. Our family of brands creates a unique portfolio of products and services. With the recent acquisitions of Asuragen and ExosomeDx, Bio-Techne has expanded its presence in the molecular diagnostics space. The combination of these businesses into a single Molecular Diagnostics Division provides a set of core capabilities and unique technologies ranging from biomarker discovery to international regulatory expertise and the ability to launch innovative products as both kitted products for international distribution as well as centralized laboratory developed tests. This division unifies the processes of offering these capabilities and those of the broader Bio-Techne family of brands to pharma partners for projects ranging from biomarker discovery and assay development to full companion diagnostic development and commercialization.

Asuragen is seeking multiple outstanding undergraduates (at least 4 semesters completed), recent graduates, and/or graduate students (master level) in the biological sciences for 2023 summer full time internships focused on developing innovative nucleic acid or protein-based technologies. These research positions will address projects relevant to Asuragen’s molecular diagnostics portfolio that currently influence over 15 million patient management decisions a year.

What We Offer and What You’ll Do

      • Asuragen internships offer exposure to cutting-edge, applied scientific research, but they also provide unique experiences that come from working in a scientific business focused on product development and research capabilities.

      • Projects will advance molecular assays that can help diagnose disease and/or inform patient treatments and focus on interrogating biomarkers with precision medicine applications.

      • Each intern is assigned a specific project and a scientific mentor; projects may fall within product development or novel method development and are appropriately scoped to produce defined outcomes based on level of expertise within the internship period.

      • Technologies of interest will vary by project, but typically include DNA isolation, preparation, and testing utilizing some combination of PCR method development, long-read Nanopore sequence library generation, reverse transcription, eukaryotic cell culture, capillary electrophoresis, quantitative or digital PCR. Other samples including protein or RNA may also be used. Projects may include working with automated liquid handler robotics.

      • Diagnostic disease applications span neurogenetics (such as myotonic dystrophy, fragile X and autism spectrum disorder), oncology (liquid and solid tumors), and carrier screening (such as cystic fibrosis, spinal muscular atrophy, hemoglobinopathy, etc.).

      • Internships span a minimum of 8-10 weeks spanning May-August. Expectations are 40 working hours/week. Options to extend the internship beyond the summer period may be considered based on intern availability, project need, and other considerations.

      • Internships include networking opportunities, social events, and workshops. Interns can shadow key functional roles for learning/development, contribute to abstract/poster preparation and presentation internally at organization-wide symposia or journal clubs.

      • Application Deadline: February 28th, 2023.
