      Molecular Workflow Automation Specialist

      YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

      In this role, you will enable pipeline efficiency and increased sample throughput by designing, deploying and documenting automation for molecular workflows. You will utilize metrics and knowledge of automation, liquid handling and molecular workflows to implement an automation strategy that is scale- and capacity- appropriate. This role is integrated into the laboratory spaces and interacts with multiple groups such as workflow users, engineering experts and support teams.


      The primary responsibilities of this role, Molecular Workflow Automation Specialist, are:

      • Pulling together the technical knowledge of workflows, the vision, strategy and capabilities of supported groups and aligning them with automation possibilities;
      • Assists in deployment of optimized workflows and training users to be capable of automation and liquid handling is equally critical;
      • Primarily an on-site position;
      • Responsible for establishing liquid handling and automation-based molecular workflows of functional user groups;
      • Work closely with daily users and workflow processes to understand improvement needs and identify and enable or deploy improvements with end users;
      • Utilize process improvement tools and techniques such as LEAN and Six Sigma tools to identify areas for improvement;
      • Communicate progress, road blocks, and opportunities by developing project review materials and project plans to key stakeholders;
      • In depth understanding and experience with liquid handling and automation processes;
      • Assist in the design, develop and deployment for technology solution;
      • Partner with lab users, IT teams, maintenance teams and reliability specialists to ensure optimal system operation and enable remediation through understanding of issues;
      • Ensure PM schedules and ensure maintenance knowledge with users;
      • Train laboratory personnel on liquid handlers and automated instruments utilized in the workflow;
      • Partner with operations team to determine opportunity values which would encompass FTE savings, workflow savings and costs;
      • Assist with corporate directives assisting with capital investment strategies;
      • Foster a team-based approach;
      • Maintain strong communication lines with groups to align needs;
      • Maintain detailed record keeping and required documentation;
      • Achieve commitment to safety by adherence to safety protocols and best practices.

      REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

      • BA/BS, MBS/MS or applicable technical experience in the fields of molecular biology, biochemistry, protein science, cell sciences, analytical chemistry, molecular biology, chemical, computer, mechanical fields;
      • Ability to work as a member of cross-functional teams;
      • Demonstrated attention to detail and organization;
      • Ability to prioritize and adjust to a fast-paced dynamic environment involving multiple business functions;
      • Sound written and verbal communications with all levels of a global organization;
      • Experience in LIMS based systems software and application techniques;
      • Proficiency with data analysis and visualization software;
      • Experience with liquid handling instrumentation or automation;
      • Familiarity with molecular biology and/or next generation sequencing workflows and applications;
      • Familiarity with programming/scripting for liquid handling systems;
      • Familiarity with operational efficiency methodologies such as LEAN, SixSigma or similar.

      PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

      • BA/BS with 6 + years of experience or MBS/MS with 0-3+ years of experience or 10-12 years of applicable technical experience in the fields of molecular biology, biochemistry, protein science, cell sciences, analytical chemistry, molecular biology,chemical, computer, mechanical fields.
