Want a job that makes a real difference?!

      Help tackle homelessness!

Cornwall Council currently provides homelessness and housing services for people, giving critical help and support to 1000s of households every year, who are facing homelessness or who are already homeless. We offer a variety of exciting and challenging roles from providing early “upstream” prevention support for people experiencing issues that may need to lead to homelessness to helping families move from emergency accommodation into a settled home and everything in between. Whatever the role, you will be working with passionate, supportive colleagues committed to make a difference to our communities and our residents.

If you have no direct experience of working in homelessness but you have energy, learn quickly, are caring and have great people skills then we still want to hear from you! We can teach you the rest.

Currently, there is a significant financial pressure for the Housing Options Service, arising from placements in emergency and temporary accommodation. As part of the plan to tackle this pressure, the wider Housing Service is establishing a Housing Improvement Task Force to focus on the reduction of cost and numbers of households in temporary accommodation. One of the initiatives the Task Force will oversee is a time-limited expansion of the Rehousing Team (Move On and Support). Due to this development opportunity we are excited to be able to offer the role of Move On Officer. We will offer you support and mentoring to help you make the most of this exciting opportunity.

Supported by analysis of evidence, the Move On Team will work with particular targeted cohorts (highest cost placements, those who have been in temporary accommodation the longest, families with children etc) within temporary accommodation to facilitate move-on.

Officers will provide a comprehensive, proactive package to individuals accommodated in temporary accommodation, empowering them to take the next step in their housing journey and move on to more settled living arrangements whilst ensuring they have all the tools required to move on into suitable permanent accommodation. An assertive and intensive support approach will be taken and staff will need to visit temporary accommodation sites to conduct face-to-face visits, reviewing Personalised Housing Plans, and maintaining regular contact with households to ensure they are taking appropriate steps to secure settled accommodation. For this reason, a full driving licence and access to own transport or a pool car is required.

This is a public/customer-facing role, where the statutory English language requirement for public sector workers applies.

This position will be subject to a criminal record disclosure check.

Whilst the location/work-base for this role may have been specified our evolving ways of working means that the role may require you to also work remotely (e.g., from home/other locations). We will discuss this with you during the recruitment process.

We are happy to talk about flexible working options such as part-time or compressed hours. More examples of our flexible working opportunities can be found here - flexible working options.

This is a 1-year fixed term contract.

If you are interested in this role and wish to know more about it, please contact the Rehousing Team Manager (Support & Move On) Charlotte Kenney on charlotte.kenney@cornwall.gov.uk
