      • Directs traffic and guides truck operator to different areas of the tipping floor;
      • Separates recycling materials including cardboard, wood, scrap metal, white goods, aluminum cans, glass, plastics by type and steel cans;
      • Identifies and separates usable cardboard;
      • Assists in handling of tipping floor traffic;
      • Receives recycling tickets from truck drivers;
      • Cleans tipping floor area, bathrooms, breakrooms, offices, conveyor pits, cat walks, OCC screen, Ballistic separator, and picks up litter outside of the facility;
      • Receives, unloads, weights, and stacks electronic and other recyclable materials;
      • Ensures that all work is performed in accordance with OSHA and city Safety Standards and Policies.
      Physical Requirements
      Hearing/Speaking – Talking – Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken word. Hearing – Perceiving nature of sounds by ear. Both necessary to insure safety for other employees and the public.
      Visual Abilities – the ability to perceive the nature of objects by the eye. Recommended guidelines for vision are:
      • Acuity, far – clarity of vision at 20 feet or more. Must be able to see vehicles, for safety reasons, as they approach. Both eyes 20/25 – R 20/30 – L 20/30 corrected.
      • Acuity, near – clarity of vision at 20 inches or less. Must be able to see various materials to separate for recycling. Both eyes 20/22 corrected.
      • Depth Perception – three-dimensional vision. Ability to judge distance and space relationships to see objects where and as they are. Must be able to judge distances when working on the catwalk.
      • Field of vision – area that can be seen up and down or the right or left while eyes are fixed on a given point. Must be able to see wide span of area to cover immediate work area and surrounding area to insure safety.
      • Accommodation – adjustment of lens of eye to bring an object into sharp focus. This is especially important when doing near-point work while glancing up to check entire work area. Must be able to adjust the eye lens to glance quickly from recycling materials to people who are located on the tipping floor.
      Physical Strength – degree of physical demands typically associated with this position include:
      • Medium Work
      • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and /or 20 pounds frequently;
      • Exerting up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
      Types of Physical Demands
      • Walking, standing, bending, and lifting, climbing stairs, working on high platforms and having good hand/eye coordination;
      • Reaching – Extending the hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction.
      • Handling – Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand or hands (fingering not involved).
      • Fingering – picking, pinching, or otherwise working with fingers primarily rather than the whole hand or arm.
      • All are requirements of this job.
      Mental Activity/Requirements
      • Reasoning – Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to work tasks and directives given by supervisor; to comprehend and respond to a variety of situations in an expedient manner obeying safety regulations at all time. Good judgment is important.
      • Mathematics Ability – Minimum- basic counting skills.
      • Language Ability – the ability to speak, read and write the English Language are required for this position.
      • Ability to read and follow safety regulations.
      • Ability to converse in voice and diction over hand held radio to direct truck operator to various areas within the facility, to communicate with other employees and to call out in case of danger.
      Environmental Conditions
      Physical Surroundings
      • The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions. Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. Worker is required to work in extremely hot weather and extremely cold weather without heat in the winter and air conditioning in the summer. The position is best suited for someone who doesn't mind getting hot, cold, wet, dirty and sweaty.
      Hazards
      • Employee will be exposed to trash and garbage as well as various other items as discarded. Work is subject to final standards of OSHA on bloodborne pathogens.
      • Machinery, Tools, Equipment, and Work Aids which may be representative, but not all inclusive, of those commonly associated with this type of work. Brooms, shovels, rakes, mops, squeegees, leaf blower, Personnel Resolution Manual, MRF Policies.
