Microsoft SQL 3rd Line Database Administrator

As a Barclays Microsoft SQL 3rd Line Database Administer (DBA) you will be responsible for providing L3 DBA SQL Server Infrastructure, covering all aspects of the MS SQL DBA technical role and providing the final internal technical authority on SQL DBA issues. This is an exciting opportunity to design, develop and deliver engineering solutions for the Bank in the MS SQL space, using a combination of technologies and products to assist in delivering a more resilient, robust, automated SQL platform for the Banks current, and future, MS SQL platform.

What will you be doing?
• Owning and leading of technical resolution for high severity production incidents (Sev 3 high, Sev 2 and Sev1)
• Adhering to Barclays standards for change control, database security and database patterns, adhering to bank’s governance and control procedures
• Providing on-call rota support where required
• Leading and defining database delivery requirements for Service Improvement Unit initiatives
• You will be a Technical point for L3 DBA teams globally, providing additional support/guidance and development of the L3 function, in additional to supporting internal colleagues
• Acting as a technical point for L3 DBA teams globally, providing direction and strategy for the global MS SQL product roadmap with peers and leaders in the database function
• Delivering process and documentation around automated estate management processes
• Ensuring Issues / Actions are owned and managed, and interface into the Product and Change teams to ensure issues are resolved
What we’re looking for:
• Proven experience with setup/configuration/support of SQL Server 2008/2008R2/2012/2014/2016/2017/2019 with deep understanding on delivery
• Experience with Microsoft SQL Server troubleshooting impacts/outages and driving remediation including engagement with application support
• Experience as a Production support SQL Server Database Administrator, in a large, high volume and highly critical environment
• Proven experience in performance tuning including both query and server optimisation, in-depth expertise in solving database contention problems - dead locks and blocking
Skills that will help you in the role:
• Proven track record of tracking project/engagement delivery with multiple stakeholders
• Ability to summarise/present progress on complex problems to management
• Knowledge of the ITIL framework, vocabulary and best practices
• Experience in Powershell scriptingWhere will you be working?
