      Department Overview:

      Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is Madison’s public recreation provider. MSCR offers a wide variety of athletic, recreational, arts and enrichment activities and classes for all ages in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimming instruction, MSCR on the Move, arts & enrichment classes, youth summer camps, sports camps & clinics, adult & 50+ fitness, adult sport leagues including pickleball, softball and tennis, and a wide variety of outdoor pursuits including paddling sports, pontoon trips, camping, orienteering and challenge courses.

      As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), MSCR also provides afterschool enrichment activities, clubs and sports as well as summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools, Allied Learning Center and Meadowood Neighborhood Center. Afterschool clubs and sports include: arts & enrichment, homework/academic clubs, drama, dance, skiing, soccer, basketball, volleyball, cross country and much more!

      Schedule:

      • Sept-May – up to 18.5 hours/week, June-Aug – up to 25 hrs/week; Studio is closed for two – four weeks between fall and winter sessions.

      • Flexible work schedule Mon-Fri, 3-5 days/week, some morning hours required, occasional evening hours, as needed.

      Salary/Wage Range:

      Hourly $21.00 to $25.00

      Position Summary/Job Duties:

Programs include swimming instruction, MSCR on the Move, arts & enrichment classes, youth summer camps, sports camps & clinics, adult & 50+ fitness, adult sport leagues including pickleball, softball and tennis, and a wide variety of outdoor pursuits including paddling sports, pontoon trips, camping, orienteering and challenge courses.

      Functions: Manage community pottery studio and recreational pottery program. The Pottery Program Coordinator will:

      • Oversee studio operations to ensure the program meets needs of all participants’ levels and abilities.
      • Maintain a clean, safe and organized studio environment
      • Load and fire electric kiln
      • Manage firing schedule
      • Order, inventory and maintain supplies and tools
      • Mix glazes
      • Communicate regularly with program participants and parents, address participant concerns and questions
      • Assist with annual Pottery Sale
      • Coordinate subs for pottery instructors.
      • Teach adult and youth classes, if needed.
      • Manage clay reclaim

      Qualifications:

      • Minimum Qualifications:
        • Applicant must value creating accessible ceramics programming within an inclusive studio environment for all participants.
        • Applicant needs to have technical knowledge of all aspects of ceramic processes, techniques and studio equipment.
        • Experience teaching pottery classes
        • Extensive knowledge of the ceramic process
        • Experience mixing glazes
        • Experience loading and firing electric kilns.
        • Basic computer skills, comfortable with email and Google suite
      • Preferred Qualifications:
        • One – two years managing a pottery studio in a community or academic setting
        • Excellent organizational and time management skills
        • Strong communication skills
        • Experience troubleshooting and repairing electric kilns
